Default Solomon Alabi, David Thorpe speaks

David Thorpe speaks about the Raptors potentially drafting Alabi before the draft, and about the effect he could have on the Raptors in a positive way

you have to go almost halfway through the interview to find the specific conversation that PHDsteve had with coach thorpe

http://raptorsrepublic.com/2010/06./...n-the-raptors/

seems like thorpe knows tons about the guy

i'm hoping alabi will be spending his first season down in the d-league playing 30+ minutes a night. it isn't that bigs necessarily need more time to develop, they just need more time to get the speed and physicality of the game. a season there and a season under the wing of NBA coaching and a hopeful legitimate NBA big will turn this dude into a reliable player.

D-league's not a bad idea. But I want him matched up against Bargs in practice. Who cares what is offensive game is like? i just want a centre with the ability to protect the rim!

Agreed.

And if not, should the raps be rebuilding, which they just may be, bring him in and get him at least 20 minutes a game.

Jaskson I agree. He needs to go to the D-League. Maybe the whole season. If the Raps did that with Jawai who knows maybe he coulda been better

Jawai was terrible.... And I don't want any offence from Alabi... all defence and rebounding... and he won't learn that playing against second tier players in the d-league. He needs 20 mins a night in the NBA.

I still want Alabi to practice that little midrange jimmy he has.

A dangerous skill of any center to have...but I agree his focus should be as a defensive wall.

I don't know enough about this guy.
Does he have the potential of a 'Noah like' down the road?

that would be nice but i highly doubt it, i'm thinking more along the lines of a less athletic johan petro. Maybe i'm under estimating him but he seems stiffer then micheal jacksons corpse

and yes i realize that one should have been cracked two days ago, i apologize for being late

from what thorpe said his is a energy guy, like Noah but obviously not the talent of him,

just a effort guy who works hard and gets his teammates going, live wire type, works hard during practice which in turns makes other players work harder

legit 7-1, athletic, live wire, imagine him and Bargs out in the paint with the shot blocking

with the the right development this guy good be a massive value pick,

i don't really want to see him go to the DLeague

maybe for about 20 games to get his confidence up is fine...

remember pape sow?...he was dominant in the DLeague and when brought up, he couldn't really cut it.

Apples and oranges. Alabi is 7'1 in shoes. Pape was undersized - 6'10 in shoes, 6'9 without.

Remember Pops Mensa Bonsu? Another great athlete, but again, 6'7 barefoot, 6'9 in shoes. Too small to be a full-time C in the NBA.

If Alabi can get another year or two of practise in the D-League, he's got the size to play in the NBA.
