No, I've aimed much lower.... lol

Every Raptor has had defensive moments that make a coach or fan shake their head..... most choose to direct their attention on a select few. Is Bargnani a below average defender? Yeah. Half the team is.

I know Davis is PF but maybe Casey has plan for him as a backup Center. He has okay height but whats important is his length and blockshot and rebound number is better then what Barg could do. Also he is bulking up and hopefully his dad Terry can teach him a two about the center which he was back in his day when he played for the heat.

just wondering, is it entirely out of the question to have Bargnani play sf? maybe if he loses the muscle that he added in recent year, kind of like what Bosh did, and become leaner. he will be a huge sf, but would it work? he can play a similar role to durant and leave jv and davis in the paint.

could the end result be amazing paint defence? Bargnani is supposed to be a good man to man defender, but can he adequately defend this position? and don't mention that he can't defend lebron, etc, cuz really no one can. just throwing it out because a line up of

jv
davis
bargnani
derozan
bayless

could be pretty good. i figure if anyone blows by Bargnani they still have to face two great paint defenders. and if anyone chooses not to slash, they have to shoot over a 7 footer.

of course this line up doesn't have to stick. different rotations can be made depending on who Bargnani has to guard at SF. i guess if the raps are playing a team with an elite SF, they can just put in JJ to defend.

Of course things would change when we get our draft pick in 2012.

any thoughts?

As a Bargnani supporter, I think he's not quick enough for that, and I don't think our bigs behind him would be 'great' paint defenders. Maybe above average, but not great. I see Davis as being a very good defender, but I'm not sure if he will be as good as hyped defensively, though still very good.

Just an opinion....

Sam Mitchell tried putting Bargnani at SF with Bosh and Jermaine O'Neal and quickly scrapped the plan. He was getting blown by too many times. I don't think Bargnani is terrible at one-on-one post defence, but rotating is something he struggles with. I think putting him at the 3-spot would further expose this weakness.

have to agree there. Bargs rotation on D and help D are the worst aspects. I could cope with the lack of rebs if he could just box out and help on D.

The thing with the Raptors is that if they dont play good offence, the suck on defence. remember when they had the parker, ford, graham and other ... they had nice style on offence then the defence came by itself, we re murking teams by 20-30 points (denver nuggets) I feel like they lack offence too. last year we didn't shoot the 3 they even broke the 3 points record for consecutive game

i agree, but its sad when your defensive effort is all based on how well the offense is going, its a completely backwards approach
