Casey has informed his superiors on what he believes the Raptors need to do to progress to the next level.

"I've told (Colangelo) and Ed Stefanski about what the skill level and type of player we need and I will leave all of the rest to them."

Casey would like to see an upgrade on the perimeter and believes "you've got to have shooters" to succeed in today's NBA.

The Raptors coach, who received an extension on Friday, is looking forward to the off-season and he appears to have his pitch ready for the recruiting trail as he had some words of praise for the city of Toronto.

"All the stuff people say about free agency with Toronto being another country and you'll have tax problems -- all of that is crap,'' Casey explained. ``This city is one of the finest cities. It's a top five city in North America. For any free agent who doesn't think this is a special situation, they are sadly mistaken.''

Yes, the Raptors have a lot of cap space but you can't forget the team also has a lottery pick for the upcoming NBA Draft. Not to mention that last year's first-round pick Jonas Valanciunas is set to make his long-awaited debut next season.

At times, Casey and Colangelo may have been touting the young Lithuanian a little too much during the press conference but they made sure to point out there will be an adjustment period for the 19-year-old.

"I do anticipate positive things out of him next year," Colangelo said of Valanciunas. "He will struggle at times -- every young player does, every rookie does."

The centre could struggle with fouls in his rookie season but he has massive upside and he is expected to be a shot-blocking force when he is on the floor.

It will also be interesting to see what they do with their draft pick. This is a young franchise already and in order to take the next step, they will have to consider the option of moving the pick for an established player.
