Arrow Smith: Should they stay or should they go?

Quote:
Jose Calderon

Status: Two years left on contract; $9.78 million 2011-12 salary

Stuff: Defensive liabilities would be less glaring with bigger, more capable defenders to help out at the rim and he’s still the best they’ve got at getting everyone involved in the offence. Needs to look for his own shot more often, too.

Stay or go: Stay; in tandem with a dynamic young point guard, he’d be a valuable teacher.

Quote:
James Johnson

Status: Raptors control rights through 2013-14 season; $1.833 million 2011-12 salary.

Stuff: Solid mid-season pickup who’s starting to show a versatile, well-rounded game. Still doesn’t shoot the ball well enough and can get a bit nonchalant with his ball-handling, but he’s the best perimeter defender and rebounding small forward they’ve got.

Stay or go: Definitely a keeper at a bargain price and short contract, may eventually be suited as a guy coming off the bench.

Jose- GO

Johnson- Stay

Sorry but i don't want Jose teaching anything. Nice guy, but his oley, pylon, hand clapping defense is something we need to extract from this organization like a bad rash. While we're at it we also have an itch at Center that needs attention as well.

If a pg gets picked then one of Jose, Bayless and Barbosa need to go. Regardless, unless Jose is willing to come off the bench and take a paycut down the road (and I could imagine that he would if he still had a key role on a promising team), then he'll have to go at some point, but it doesn't have to happen right away unless he gets disenchanted with a lesser role.

JJ could be a guy like Childress - a good facilitator that can come off the bench and defend. If he gets pushed into too big of a role, than I can see him disappointing just about as much as Weems, or any number of guys here that ended up trying to do too much.

I don't know how we'd get rid of Calderon. I imagine we'd try to land an expiring for him but who'd want to give that up for a mediocre defensively-challenged PG who's signed for 2 more years at $10 per, especially when that team knows guys like Nash, Hinrich, and Billups will be available after '12.

Does this mean stay or go for Andrea?

Stay or go: What he brings them on offence can’t be discounted, but he has to try to defend.

Yeah - I think we'd have more coming back closer to the trade deadline or the following summer, when he can be looked at as something worth trying that will turn into an expiring if he fails to impress.

The only players on this roster we NEED to keep are:

Derozan, JJ, Amir, Davis and maybe Bayless.

Beyond that i don't really care. I like what barbosa brings and think Kleiza healthy can be pretty good but ultimately i wouldn't care if they were dealt. And i like Evans but i doubt he'll be back.

I'll humor you and agree with the rest of his opinions, other than I also want Bargs gone and he didn't seem to have much of an opinion on his status.

I think you let the FAs Walk. Evans maybe worth a Vet min. Barbosa is going to take his 7.6 or sign with a contender who gives him at least 70% of that final year. You hold on to Josie because he is going to be worth more at the deadline. I still think you Dump our pick as Bargs bait, hopefully for sf/c or pg/c combo. Like the Before mentioned Rusillo trade for Nash and Gortat or even Bday and Varejao. I think Building a round the core of DD, JJ, Davis (they don't need to be starters) . That leaves Bayless, Klieza, and Amir as viable assets, and dependent on what you draft or trade for can kept or traded. Alabi and Dorsey are none factors and Jullien Wright and his 3 million is a great top up trade asset. I think the main goal should be to trim this team down, maybe gamble on quality over quantity.

BLASPHEMY.

If he ever comes to Toronto I will never cheer for the Raptors again. He is a flopmachine and his hair is possibly an entity in its own right.

Like we are in a position to complain about some one who plays defense at the C spot. He rebounds and plays great pick and role D and he is pretty willing to fight for position on the glass. I don't see Bargs taking any charges, flops or not.
