Smith: "Remember the name Jaycee Carroll."

OK, maybe I am a dumbass and have no clue what I'm talking about. I guess some people out there think that Jaycee can contribute in the NBA, but it seems to be all banking on whether he can feel confortable playing as a PG more than his comfort position of SG. :confused2:

Remember the name Jaycee Carroll.

He’s the kid added late to the Raptor summer league team, combo guard out of Utah State who made a pretty bold statement with 14 points in about four minutes of Saturday’s game.

I have no idea if he can stick in the NBA but the kid killed playing for New Jersey in Orlando and is starting to turn some heads.

Including, according to my man Dave D down in Newark, that of Nets honcho Rod Thorn.

"If he can play some combo guard, at the end of the day – if he can be a 1 for a few minutes a night – I think he is (an NBA player),” Thorn said. “He’s giving up size at the two-guard. But he’s a very competitive kid, and he has a real quick release. He’ll make some shots. But whether he can guard those guys will be the key. If he improves his ball-handling … we played him a lot at the point, and he did a nice job. He got pressed a lot but did a nice job. So that’s the key. But with his makeup, the way he’s put together, he looks like a player.”

I think he's JJ Reddick -lite.

Ahhh the dog days of July, when Jaycee Carroll warrants multiple discussion topics.

He is a combo guard.

We could use a combo guard.

However, whether or not we sign him, it is highly unlikely he will be an impact player of any kind.

Ouch! I always thought only JJ Reddick could qualify for JJ Reddick-lite status.

I said this yesterday. The raptors will take a chance on this Kid and i think they should. He's a young combo guard that can shoot lights out. He's undersized but he has impressed me from what i've seen. He'd be cheap and might allow us to get a 14th player.

yup, no doubt.
he's one of those low risk - high reward types.
BC salivates over those kind of players because when they succeed; they make him look like a genius. he's very egotistical like that.

another reason he stays is because he's sort of like a juan dixon.
high energy, scoring machine who is undersized and is one dimensional.
BC traded for dixon, remember that, so its easy to say that BC likes those types of players.

or maybe BC sallivates because he's smart and knows that most good teams in the NBA got really lucky with under the radar players? Unless you have unlimited funds, or are lucky to get a supertalent like lebron, it's almost impossible to be very good in the cap-space if you don't have many under-paid players on your roster. And that can only happened in two ways: screw some other team in a trade (which can happen only so often) or sign cheap players with high upside.

and the only reason BC traded for dixon was that he had a shorter contract than fred jones .

He'll be lucky if he ever reaches Matt Carroll status, and Carroll is taller if I'm not mistaken. There arent many 6'4 'combo' (white) guards in the NBA these days, and he isnt even a combo guard. Theres no way in hell he can play the point in the NBA.

dfunkie1 07-14-2008 09:36 PM

i'm confused, thriller

if he's white, shouldnt he be a great point guard?

and

why are you always so angry?

Ball Don't Lie 07-14-2008 09:56 PM

Whats angry about my post?

Hes a shooter, not a PG. He has no handle. Donut dougy shouldnt group short for NBA standards=PG.

Please this guy is not gonna be some superstar coming into the NBA. There's a big step from NCAA to NBA.
