Heat Smith: Raptors Interest In Marion Is Apparently Legit

According to Doug the Raptors have made some calls to Miami regarding Marion. Now its just a matter of what BC's offering.

Yes, the Raptors have talked to Miami and Iíve been assured by a few people that Marionís name has come up.

But Iím not sure thereís a fit unless itís for Jermaine OíNeal because thereís no way the Heat can do three- or four-for-one, which would be necessary to make the money work in a Toronto deal.

Would that work for the Raptors? Well, itíd move Bargnani back to the starting role and the front court would be him, Bosh, Hump and Jake Voskuhl. Youíd have Marion and Moon and Joey at three (thatís a glut) and Kapono and Parker still at the two.

Itíd be a rebounding upgrade Ė Marion averages about 10 a game for his career Ė but heís not a great shooter, doesnít really create his own shot all the well, and thrived mainly next to Steve Nash, who doesnít play here.

But the talk is legit and thatís got to make some people happy.

I would not have any problems with Shawn here in Toronto. HE can shoot, run, plays good D and hustle.

But the problem is a trade for Marion would cost us AP, JK, Humphries and Graham. Then I think if we get Marion and say Cook, we can use Jake and Adams more. But we definitly would lose some of our depth.

I`m right between. Important for me is not to give up Andrea in any Trade. I hope he will break out for us latest after the All Star Break.

Bye

Am I hearing JO for Marion?

we would have to get a player(s) of $4 million in value added on to the trade, from Miami, to work

A Bosh, Bargnani and Marion front court is significantly better than a JO, Bosh and whomever at SF one. Considering how well Bargnani has played defensively this season and would be more comfortable at C than at SF I think its a great move for us.

I absolutely hate Shawn Marion. Despise him. Why are we building a run and gun team right now ? What purpose does it serve?

ughhhh, you all know how i feel about Marion 'the hack'.
i hate his game and his personality.
but truth be told, we need a wing like him badly, and we dont really need JO.
his contract is up at the end of the year, so we're not on the hook for anything.

it honestly makes a lot of sense.
Miami desperately needs a C... raps desperately need a good SF who can play D and rebound the ball.
im not against it.

Marion would probably thrive in a situation like Toronto simply because he'd be playing with a pure, pass-first point guard.

JO was averageing a double double and just getting into his groove before the injury. He was getting better and better. Then coming back right away next game, favouring the knee, injuring his ankle set him back once again.

I still think he has alot more game in him and can/will average better stats then Marion eventually this season.

I don't know i just CANT stand Marion. It's to early to trade JO and cancel the bosh/o'neal experiement.

I really expected JO to instill way more intensity in this team, kind of like KG did for Boston, he isnt the type of intimidating leader i thought he was, i dont mind moving him.

As did I. I thought there would be more chest-thumping, more helping your teammates off the floor quickly, but it's nothing like that. I think Bargs can provide the same numbers and productivity JO does and Marion would vastly improve our spot at the 3. I'd explore trades - Bosh for a 2-guard + depth and sign Boozer in the off-season, and re-sign Marion. Okay, that's my wet dream for the day.

Jermaine O'Neal came in here as a huge risk at best. we all knew that one fall or little tweak of that knee would set him back months if not years and that has happened. he is weak offensively most nights and the games he has scored big most are 15 - 20 foot shots which is NOT where you want your Center scoring from or setting up on offense. Trade JO, put AB at center where he really seems to fit nicely with Hump and Jake <way> behind him. Start Marion at SF with Joey behind him <that sounds good already> and use JK and AP beside Jose and Roko with Jamario playing 2 or 3 depending on the matchup, this deal would be a huge upgrade with little effect on us offensively which is not really our problem. Marion is a tough wing defender and needs a guy like Jose to make his offensive skill set work. DO BC, this team is going no where fast and the experiment is a failure.

JO problem is he needs to catch the ball DEEP in the paint near the basket. That's his game.

But he hasen't been able to do that. I don't know if its his own fault for starting out so far... the PG passing to early, or teams are just pushing and keeping him out there and thats why hes taking those nasty jump shots.

I remember watching him in his prime in Indiana. He would catch the ball deep near the rim and would score with ease... ahhhhhhhh i want that JO back.

I think that JO is gone forever, his explosiveness isnt there like it was years ago, what we are seeing is about what we will get, maybe a slight improvement but i dont see any allstar form in his future unfortunately
