Default Smith: Raps Looking To Draft A Big This Summer

According to Doug and his sources, he believes that the Raps are going big this summer at the draft considering there's likely going to be a good chunk of them. Any good names come to mind fellas? Hibbert?

Do you know which philosophy the Raptors are leaning towards this year in the draft? I know there is a crying need for a slashing guard/forward, but I submit it is still better just to take the best player available.

Doug: A draft philosophy question I’ll answer. A question about a specific player? Not yet.

I was talking to a high-ranking team official on the weekend and he told me this draft is full of bigs so I’d presume that’s the way they’ll go. They’ll search out a veteran wing in free agency or via trade; they expect Roko Ukic here to be the third point guard so a centre will be their top priority.

But, if some stud small forward is there unexpectedly when they draft they won’t pass him up. They doubt that, though.

another big?
no thanks.
i would bet money this years pick is used in a trade.
frankly, we dont need a draft pick this season, and a 18-25 range pick at that.

we can package rasho's expiring contract, Graham, and another filler, with our 1st rounder - all for something decent.

or TJ and our 1st rounder - for something good.

Do you think anyone's actually going to trade for TJ? He's not only injury prone, but now he's a cancer too.

Rumour has it that the Bulls would be interested...
Rasho + TJ for Nocioni + Duhon?

I thought the Bulls were going to let Gordon walk at the end of the season. The guy wants in excess of 10 mil plus and management isn't going to give it to him.

i guarantee the bulls would bite on this offer.
Nocioni barely gets minutes nowadays, and duhon is riding the pine hard.
if this is offered, i guarantee the bulls take it.
they arent re-signing gordon, he showed his true value this season and he's a one trick pony. they will re-sign deng though and save money letting gordon walk.

they can afford TJ's health concerns because they will have hinrich there.
hinrich has been awful this season, TJ is a vast upgrade in the PG position for them, and hinrich will be a great backup or 2 guard with gordon out of the picture.

i think we could offer them TJ and Rasho, for nocioni and duhon, and even pull something more from them... a 2nd rounder maybe.

Why would they make a deal to get something they dont' need and give up rotation players? I dont' follow the logic. Hienrich while he's struggled this year is a really good point guard...better defender than TJ too. I like TJ but I wouldn't call him a vast upgrade over Hienrich....not from a comlete game standpoint. Nocioni has been a starter this year and not as glued to the bench as you suggest..i watched the game last night with Cleveland and he plays relevant minutes.

Why Does Nocioni Sit.

Is Nocioni a big body, a banger that will make a lot of diference in the paint just by being there, or is he simply scrappy?

What's Nocioni's IQ like?

I hear his name a lot, however I have only seen him a handful of times and he has never really blown the doors off, so I just wonder if he might not be a "grass is greener" type guy.

Know what I mean

Nocioni is a hustler and a scrapper. He never gives up on a play or a game, he always gives everything he's got. He's a very agressive defender, has a good mid-range game, can hit from outside and can put it on the floor.

He's only 6'7". He's an undersized 4, but lost some weight and plays mostly SF now. He reminds me of a slightly more skilled Garbo.

He's also a guy that really gets under the skin of the other teams. You know a guy everyone he plays against hates, but loves him when he's on their team.

So we can grab him, park Moon, sell Kapono to Benzo, and all we need after that is a fancy 2 guy to drop 40 a night.....Kobe maybe, or maybe Wade.

I can see the parade now.
