Default Smith: "JO's beating himself up"

Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I mean, I think its awesome that JO knows that he needs to improve, but as already mentioned in this morning's articles do you think O'Neal is frustrated with playing second (or third fiddle on our case) to both Bosh and Jose? And can he adapt to this change?

So, what do they do to get him going offensively?

Me, I say nothing.

I say keep doing what theyíre doing, itís going to come around, itís just going to take time. Pressing the issue makes no sense because itíll take away from what the other guys are doing; not giving him the ball makes no sense because itíll only exacerbate the problem, which is a lack of rhythm.

OíNealís right when he says heís doing everything right, heís getting the ball where he wants it, his spin move does create shooting space. Now itís a matter of making the shots.

I think heíll start making them soon but messing with anything now makes no sense.

i don't think its about playing 2nd or 3rd fiddle. i think he's just frustrated b/c his shats aren't falling.

he'll have one big game where it omes together and it will lift his confidence up.

He'll be fine.

Moon however...... he has pussy disease, it's hard to cure. But not imposssible, lok at how well Bosh is coming along in his "pussy disease" rehab!

Yeah, I am not particularly worried about JO, so long as his offensive struggles won't affect his defence and his overall effort.

lol SJ.

Personally i think JO is in a tough situation physically and mentally. He's missed a ton of time in the last few years. He's getting used to new teammates, a new system here in TO. It's natural that there will be some time to adjust. This would be the case with any player. It'll come around. Most "experts" were saying that JO probably won't really hit his stride until sometime in december anyways.

Hell, i'm encouraged that JO has so much passion and is not satisfied with how he's doing so far. It shows he WANTS to earn his paycheque. The man has heart.

Why does everyone really seem surprised including JO about his early struggles ? The guy has missed a lot of games due to injury so after 4 games into the season I won't get too excited. However, I do have one concern about JO and its nothing to do about his shot or health or his game. What concerns me is the mental side of JO. Will he be able to handle being that 3rd guy ? There has been too much talk about his offence and its all mental with JO. The sooner he excepts that he is our 3rd or 4 th option on the floor the quicker he will snap out of his little shooting funk. Bosh and Calderon will be top offensive players then throw in Parker, JO, and Bargs in there. JO should be addressing more about the impact he provides on defence and not worry about how many more points Bosh and Calderon have over him. It sounds simple but its not for a guy that in his entire carreer has been the go to guy. You see it in his game so far this year. He was presssing and taking shots when he should have dished off.... its because he had to get his points and in that Piston game he actually took our team right out of it with him shooting instead of moving the ball.

LOL. Bosh got rid of it by playing with superstars over the summer and gaining confidence that way (and contributing to a gold-winning Olympic title)...somehow i don't see moon attaining a similar level of help in that matter.

IMO I think JO beating himself up is a good thing. He knows he has to better and now he will work on it and improve his game.

true gurk. Hopefully though, he doesn't try to do too much and force himself to be the offensive star. When players force things, it's never good. And you could see him doing that against Detroit. Sheed had his number and was annoying him all game long, and at times, Oneal got caught up in it.

Anyways, as long as he holds the fort down on the defensive end and is that defensive anchor that we so need him to be, i'll be content.

People think that he is going to be our 3rd (or 4th) option even once he gets rolling? I don't see how he shouldn't be our 2nd. Jose can score if need be but ideally he should be worried about moving the ball and only scoring to keep defenders honest or when everyone else is cold.
