Default Smith: Heat & Raptors Deal Still On The Front Burner

Yes, the injury to Hump clouds the front-court issue in Toronto if Jermaine ends up with the Heat but the GM here canít be all that worried about the next month when it comes to getting the financial flexibility Ė not to mention a 30-something game upgrade at the small forward spot Ė afforded by the proposed trade, which is very, very much still on the front burner.

If Toronto had to go a month or so with a frontcourt rotation of Bosh, Bargnani, Voskuhl with Marion sliding to the four for a few minutes a night, Iím pretty sure they could live with it given what theyíd be able to do with player acquisitions in the summer.

And I will reiterate one more time: Having substantial cap room this summer is not only about signing free agents so if you look at the list and are underwhelmed, donít worry.

Itís more about having the chance to obtain guys in trades as anything which opens up a whole raft of other possibilities.

OíNeal looked exponentially more comfortable yesterday than he did on Friday in Chicago or Wednesday in Detroit and you can be sure thereís a tape of the game floating around the Heat offices.

I don't care. Jo is doing a good job of the bench but it's when he gets injured that pisses us all of. When he is playing we don't want him traded and when he is injured we want him gone. I guess we will wait and see. BTW looking at how he is playing Riley prolly wants to make this deal now and maybe BC is telling Riley to add a pick LOL

BC needs to grab his balls and tell Riley that he needs to meet his demands.
this whole trade scenerio has been lead by Riley. Riley's been calling the shots, making demands, stepping in, stepping out.

BC needs to realize that HE holds all the cards! HE has all the power!
that 23 million in cap space in 2010 is absolute GOLD. opposing GM's will be willing to give their left nut for that kinda money when the 2010 sweepstakes come around.
and the closer is gets, the more valuable JO's contract will be.
BC shouldnt get pushed around by Riley. BC should be doing the pushing.
Miami's franchise is in shambles. if they lose Wade they are done. however, they bring another allstar to play along wade (dirk, JJ, lebron, amare, etc) they are back in the limelight for another 6 years.
its even better since miami is one of the most favorable destinations for free agents.
riley knows this... Riley needs JO's contract. he needs to make that trade more than we do.
Grab your balls BC make Riley sweat for a change.
rip that greasy mofo a new ass!

I like your gusto Insider.

However, we're only saying this now since Jermaine's had a few good games. If he doesn;t do as well as he's done... i'm sure we'd be singing a different song. but you're right though, i'd like to see BC exploit Oneal's recent good showing.

How bout exploiting the fact that Marion is injured?...very little talk about that, BC may be able to acquire, Cook or Anthony(would be nice to have a Canadian Big) especially if he throws in Moon

The problem is that whenever Bc demands something, Riley will pull the "Glass knees" card. And rightfully so.

lol miami is in shambles and we are in a position of power?? Dont overrate the expiring, the reason Riley wants the deal is he thinks JO could improve them now + the expiring, Marion is expiring anyways.

Nice rant. I agree with what you have to say. Maybe we can get Marion a first and Anthony for JO and Moon

You guys are trippin like Scottie Pippen, we are in way worse shape as a franchise then MIA, they can always attract names when they have $, we are worse this year, and if Bosh leaves we are in worse shape then them losing Wade (which i dont think will happen anyways). It isnt that hard to convince players to come to South Beach as it is Lake Ontario.

We aren't gonna get Anthony. I'm not a fan of his but Miami will keep him and give us a shitty contract with Banks instead.

Like i said, i'm not a fan of Anthony but his contract would be 1000 x better then Bank's contract. But it isn't gonna happen.

shambles.
yes.
have you seen the attendance for Miami home games?
shambles.

the only time they came close to having a packed house in the last decade was when shaq and wade were together.
hey what a coincidence! in 2010 they have a chance of putting wade with another superstar!

we have the power in these trade talks.
dont be fooled.

um Ugo, have you looked at ticket sales over the past decade?
even when we sucked we were still in the top quarter of the league.
Miami didnt even sell out the place when shaq was there.

I still dont see how them not selling out gives us the power, they arent going to lose their franchise and are a much bigger draw for FAs. Marion expires anyways this year.

Sure, Miami is in a stronger position in terms of free agent appeal, but i will never understand why that city is such a bad sports town. I mean really... do they have one franchise with a solid solid fan base?
