Arrow Smith: Further roster moves should be players who can grow with the current group

Quote:
This team, right now, is not a place for a veteran to come in and play out his dotage; they need young kids hungry to prove themselves or mid-20s guys ready to truly blossom.

I don’t care what word you use – rebuilding, re-tooling, changing, adjusting, whatever – this team this year is going to very much be a work in progress where you’ll have some kids still trying to figure it out, some trying to make their name and I’m wondering if it won’t be at least more entertaining a product that we’ve seen the last two years.

I think Bryan’s one last move – or maybe his two last moves – should be to add someone who can grow with the group, not someone like an aging star ending his career who might provide a couple of extra wins at the cost of the development of guys who may be here for a while.

So Tracy and Shaq and even Josh Howard, who is intriguing if he wasn’t hurt and most likely too expensive, should find other homes where they fit better because I don’t think any of them bring anything to a team trying to establish an identity.

A nice anchor like Chandler would have worked. And no I'm not over it yet. We got fucked over by a guy that has ideas like this -

& I don't mean that he will be able to get CP3, I mean he will use our expirers & TPE to get us some young tallent or picks in a 3 or 4 team deal involving CP3...At least I hope so?

I still think a Veteran Center (28-30yrs old) would be good for this teams youngsters.

I know that Raptors did lol

and at acquiring young players, if Paul agrees to stay with NOH then Collison becomes available again and if we could get rid of Calderon's horrible contract then i'm all for getting Okafor and Collison in a deal...Okafor's contract is horrible but he is a player we need right now so Bargs can move over to PF and we get a true centre.

So, basically, Dougie is recommending a full tank. Which is smart.

Of course, he posted last week that BC has no intention of doing this.

A top 3 pick next draft, added to this current squad, would look pretty nice I think.

other than the very slim chance that Bargnani or DD or Sonny Weems becomes a superstar, it's the only way for us to reach another level.

I swear D.Smith always states the obvious. BC has said this numerous times the last month or so with the media.

Sign me up. As long as the young guys are developing throughout the year, I can live with the Raps losing 55 games. A top 3-5 pick could be the key to obtaining a PG with all-star potential.

Hearing BC on the fan today, it didn't sound like he was ready to tank. But then it's pretty hard to make much sense of where his head is at. His neurons are firing like crazy and he's already working on damage control while trying to sell tickets at the same time.

And in all fairness - if developing a whole new culture under the influence of the young'uns becomes the top priority, then it won't really be tanking in my books. Especially if it actually means that it's the first step in getting rid of some of the dead wood down the line. If that happens then I'll feel ready to be a big ass homer again.
