Default Smith Discusses How Badly We Need a Wing

Look down the Raptor roster. Who can beat his guy off the dribble? Watch almost every other team in the league. When they need a basket, they get someone on the wing driving and create movement among the defenders, scrambling the game a little bit and presto! space opens up. Space that big men sometimes fill, not space that big men are supposed to create.

It is, and has been, the fatal flaw with this team since that Carter fellow left.

Every day I see Outlaw plays a big game (33 pts/7 reb/3 blks) it kills me because I wanted a Parker/Outlaw trade in the offseason, but lets not dwell.

Of course we need a wing player

Sounds like Smith and his usual obvious observations.

1. Doesn't every team want a Paul Pierce?
2. If there was such a thing as a "cheap facsimile" wouldn't we have one? Wings who can create off the dribble, defend and shoot aren't exactly a dime a dozen.

We're in an awfully tough position cap wise and current personnel wise to be able to acquire a legit wing scoring threat.

It's too bad there isn't more of a demand for wings who can't create off the dribble, are mediocre shooters, and have a tough time defending some of the weaker players in the league...in that case we'd have all the trade bait in the world.

Many people have been saying this. Although I didn't like his play, Ford was able to do it. Since we don't have a slasher SG, points Solomon and Ukic can do it. Sometimes Jose too. We should play more pick&roll game. That's the most classic and difficult to defend play in basketball. Ever heard of Stockton&Malone?

Ummm... Doug? Wasn't your problem with that "carter fellow" that he didn't drive and create space as much as he needed to?

I just wish the TJ haters would realize this at least one little bit? It wasnt Delfino and a magically 10x better last year (at least in Raptors fans heads) AP that created the space and easier looks for ppl... it was TJ for the most part. Jose is a really good PG, if we get him a slasher he will look 10x better, but for the personel and the way our team is set up currently, trading away your only real slasher, and letting Delchucko go for nothing, while aquiring another piece that cant create his own shot but likes lotsa touches (figure out who that is?), doesnt make alot of sense for a supposed genius GM. He has put Bosh and Calderon in a position to fail by the moves he has made.

Yes, we do need a wing, since we dont have a PG that can get to the rim, we need a wing ASAP, or we need to change the PG situation, one or the other, altho i really think the wing is the better option and JO the obvious bait.
