Smith: Dallas Rumour Total Nonsense

Quote:
Let's nip this in the bud now
As you regulars know, I never do this but this whole Dallas-Toronto thing that's floating around there this morning is creating reaction well beyond proportion.

So ...

The deal is not going to happen, was never going to happen, will never happen and you can all go back to your regularly-scheduled lives, as I will with a visit to Super Son's orthodontist and my doctor, exactly the way I was going to spend an off-day before I got sidetracked with this garbage.

I have no idea why the story was made up or out there in the first place but one guy I talked to around the league used the words "total" and "nonsense" in a conversation.

Think about it: Yes, Howard is good, although many will tell you his skills and impact are declining. Diop has perhaps the worst contract for value in the league with four years and about $25 million to run -- after this year - and a trade kicker that increases the value. This for what? A rebound or two, maybe a point or two a game? Come on, are you serious? Antoine Wright? If he gets another NBA contract after next year I'll be shocked.

For what? The best young big man on Toronto's roster and the most valuable expiring contract? Do you all think Bryan has lost his mind?

I have no idea who the writer is or what hoopsworld is or why this fiction got out there but it did and it's ridiculous. End of rant.

Well, sort of.

This is a prime example of why you should trust and know the sources of your news and speculation. And it's precisely why I don't traffic in fantasy.

See you later for the game.
Story here.

Diop is worthless and overpaid, and josh won't be leaving anytime soon.. imho

Doug Smith is a complete moron, and a bloated one at that. He makes some sense here, but if he doesn't think it'll happen Howard/Diop will probably be Raptors by February! lol

Bargs/Parker for Howard/Diop is a major steal for us. Bargs was the biggest POS ever like last week. If a couple good games can get us Josh Howard, fuck yea

Diop is not worthless. He's an all defence no offense player. Dirk has thrived for years beside that Damp/Diop formula, with Bosh we don't need scoring from our C.

if you are truly believing that we don't need scoring from our center, then why are we working so hard at finding a role for the four centers on the squad? Andrea has become a solid C, Hump, Jake, and Nathan are all C's aren't they? i appreciate what you are trying to say, but to say we don't need scoring from the 5 spot because Bosh is there is just bad basketball! can you explain that thought a bit more, maybe i am not understanding what you are trying to say.

we never got much scoring production for rasho but we were successful.
defense and rebounding should be first priorities when considering a centre.

well, i see you have little need for a center, i guess guys like Kareem and Wilt would ride the bench for you. here is a list of the top center's in the game today and some stats to think about.

Amar'e Stoudemire - 21.8 ppg 8.5 rpg
Dwight Howard - 20.0 ppg 13.7 rpg
Yao Ming - 19.6 ppg 9.7 rpg
Pau Gasol - 17.4 ppg 8.8 rpg
Shaq - 17.2 ppg 8.9 rpg
Memhet Okur - 17.0 ppg 8.5 rpg

the Raptors don't even have a C on the list except Jake who is scoring 1.8 per game and averages 2.1 rebound per game to sit in 67th place behind Diop and ahead of Ratliff...

We need to move JO not Bargnani...This team took two games against fairly legitimate competition (Orlando/Houston) because Bargs has played the best basketball of his career, against stiff big men too. With JO and Bosh starting in the post this team stunk, they couldnt win games, they had next to no chemistry together, Bargnani is such a scary matchup against centers on offense, you really think Howard and Yao are comfortable guarding him on the perimeter? When JO comes back trade him for Howard...(if only Denver pulled the trigger on Kapono for JR Smith :S)

Ofcourse I wouldnt want a scrub as my C.
where's Tyson Chandler's numbers? New Orleans is doing pretty well.
The knicks played well with camby. then theres motumbo.

im just saying i wouldnt look at scoring as my primary focus when looking for a C.

Tyson Chandler - 8.9 ppg 8 rpg - 22nd over all behind Rasho and Perkins and one spot ahead of greg oden
Marcus Camby - ex Raptors player - now a Clipper - 12.0 ppg 13.7 rpg in 12th spot behind Brad Miller and just ahead of Andrew Bynum.
Dikembe Motumbo is averaging 3 points and 5 rbpg

all those centers are very good defenders, rasho was merely average. And boston, la and NO already have at least 3 very potent offensive weapons (paul/west/peja, kobe/odom/gasol, kg/pierce/ray allen), so the need for a high scoring center is not as stringent. However, what's imporant is to have a center/PF than can actually play in the low post. I don't remember any title winner in the past 10 years who didn't have somebody capable of playing in the low post.
