Smith: Bosh-Carmello-Billups?

Taken from D.Smith blog Q & A:

Hrmm interesting... Question was asked if Denver may be interested in a S&T Nene for Bosh since they might be looking to shake things up abit over there aswell...

Quote:
You know, I’ve wondered whether Denver, which needs to shake some stuff up for sure, wouldn’t be a good fit for Bosh. And I’ve always been a bit of Nene fan, he’s tough and a bit ornery. But do the Nuggets have concerns about Kenyon’s long-term health that they’d risk it? So, I have no idea if the Nuggets think that highly of Bosh, though.

Bosh has always said he thinks of himself as a No. 1 guy but I also think he wants to win and a Bosh-Billups-Anthony threesome would be pretty potent.

Bosh and Melo play the same game
And Denver is not one of those favorable destinations

Not a huge fan of Nene and he's way overpaid but it'd beat the crap out of anything Miami or the Bulls could offer us.

Nene and Afflalo wouldn't be a bad return at all.

Not sure how well Carmelo, Bosh and Billups would work together. Carmelo's not a great creator for his teammates so it would be up to Billlups running the PNR with Bosh, but that in turn would take touches away from Melo.

I'll just paste in my old post from January. Jeffb started a thread about this option back then.

Once he's got enough money to do the things he wants his church to do, he's cutting and running from the NBA.
So, as I was saying, if he declines his player option, he could be gone after next year. 1 year of Nene? No thanks. I'd rather get picks or younger players with upside.

Sounds like the type of situation the Raptors would find themselves in. It's not almost a given that we'll get him and he'll bolt to play for the Catholic church.

Bosh and Melo play the same game? Are you serious? Yes Denver wasn't on the list, I give you that, but Melo is a very different player than Bosh.

They take up a lot of the same space. There could be overlap, and maybe not so much of a complimentary thing.

I'd think you could say that about every major FA with Bosh.... Carmelo is a legit 3 and Bosh is a legit 4.... I don't really see their games overlap at all. Carmelo is a pure scorer, and possibly one of the top 3 in the game. Bosh is more of a big, even if he plays more face to the basket... Denver plays Nene and K-Mart with Melo.... If anything, I'd say K-Mart's game would overlap Bosh's....

Regardless, much different than saying they play the same game.

Bosh takes mid-range jumpers and occasionally goes down to the block or slashes in from the high post.....sounds a lot like Mello, which is what LX was alluding to when he said they occupy "the same space." K-Mart's game doesn't overlap with Bosh's that much. For the most part, K-Mart plays off of others on offense. K-Mart does NOT occupy an important roll on offensive; his defense is what makes him valuable, if anything.

And I sort of disagree with your assertion that you can say "every" other FA occupies the same space as Bosh. Wade and Lebron are creators who do far more slashing and handling of the rock on the perimeter. Lebron is more of a point forward than Mello. And Wade is like a combo guard. Wade plays shooting guard but he racks up assists like a PG becuase he is a great facillatator. Mello hasn't been a major creator since he left Syracuse. Bosh would be a much better fit with Wade or Lebron.

I guess we should have had Bosh play the three like Melo

Bosh for Nene? No thanks, I'd rather have Amir than Nene.

If you're looking at Denver I'd take Nene for a short term but I'd also like some of their grit players in return, specifically Affalo, Andersen and Ty Lawson. Nene plus 2 of those guys (high price ha!) would make me happy.

Fair enough, but Nene is a much more impactful player than Amir... as much as Amir is a likeable guy, it's not even close. 4 years from now, maybe it's a very different argument though.
