Smitch on Hakeem: "There’s never been anyone like him.”

I'd have to agree with Sam that when it comes to big men, there's been no one with the moves like Hakeem had back in the day. :(

“On my first road trip to New York in the preseason, he actually made me go shopping with him and bought me, the rookie, some new clothes. I’ll never forget how pleasant he was off the court and what a fierce competitor he was on it.

“The game has had Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar), Shaquille O’Neal and (Bill) Russell. But no big man ever had his footwork, those moves. Hakeem would make moves on people, fake them out of their shoes and literally be laughing as he laid the ball in off the glass. There’s never been anyone like him.”

Yet another pearl of wisdom from the Smitch

Oh he's totally right. The dream was an incredible talent. and all these stories of how great a guy he was...i'm sure they aren't exagurated.

It's just unfortunate that from a raptor fan's perspective, Hakeem kind of punked the organization.

Oh well.

Obviously.....

Oh, and a person needs to breath to live.

And it stays dark outside if the sun doesnt shine.

Snow is cold to the touch.

1 + 1 = 2.

Only if he was that good when he came to the raps. HE was still in his prime that would be awesome

If only he didn't take his pay check and retire in November when he came to play for the Raptors...

dfunkie1 09-06-2008 12:08 AM

blame glen, not hak. we were stupid enough to offer a contract to a player with no knees and a bad back, he was smart enough to accept it.

as for hak, he was the best center i've seen in a generation rich of them. and this coming from someone who idolized david robinson.

Apollo 09-06-2008 11:19 AM

It was a dishonorable thing to do. You can spin it however but he basically stole millions from the Raptors. I fail to see how its Glen's fault that Hakeem mislead the franchise into thinking he still wanted to play ball. Doctors cleared him, it wasn't about health.
