Default Smitch on the development on high draft picks

This was from Mike Koreen's blog this afternoon from the National Post. Sam does have a point, but as a fan when you see the development of guys like LaMarcus and Roy, you can't help but wonder why Andrea didn't pick things up faster too.

But yes, as Sam was trying to preach to the media, I too will try and be more patient when it comes to Bargnani.

There's no patience with young players."

After watching game in an hour yesterday, all the shots Bargs took he's made EASILY before. Almost every one of those was a wide open 3 or set shot 18 footer. It's like his confidence is dead or something. He should have been at leasy 8/13 last night with the shots he had. It's not like he's taking VC fadeaway shots, theyll start going in eventually.

Which I bet alot has to do with people from the media. I mean, he can't escape the critics especially in a media frenzy city like Toronto that are used to complaining about their sports. (i.e. see the Toronto Maple Leafs)

Less is more. More or less. But mostly less. Or should that be more?

He's been shooting like that most games since starting off pretty good for the first few.

And then yes the media asks him shit like - was that your worst game ever?

I'm happy if he runs the floor with a purpose, and bends his knees. If he does that he can miss all the shots in the world. At least he looks like he wants to be out there in some capacity, as opposed to when he hits a few threes and then dawdles around waiting for a traveling call. Last night he ran and bent his knees and assumed a defensive position. He showed some hustle, and he smiled at the end. I think it goes up from there.

i say we stop hoping in one-two game spans and spread the hope out to the 12-15 game mark. let's see if he's capable of stringing some of that knee bending together for more than a few quarters at a time.

It's not fair to compare the development of AB with Lamarcus or Roy for a few reasons... 1, L and R play on a team where they're put out there and told to do what the were doing in college...be the man, do everything. They played on a bad team last year and got lots of burn and lots of touches...whereas Andrea played on a good team and wasn't asked to do so much. We can win easily without him ...not true for Portland and there guys. 2. AB is being put into a new position he's never played in..one of the tougher ones to get also not true for L and R.

As frustrated as I am with AB this year, i'm cutting him some slack for those reasons.

I agree with this completely.

I have a deep down feeling that he picked up some real bad habits playing for Italy in the summer coupled with the fact that he's probably not fully recovered from his surgery of last year (I know LX brings up the Roethlesberger (sp) situation). Hell, there were rumors of him having a back issue over the summer. Maybe it's still bothering him?

Right now, my expectations for him this season are a write off. I want to see what he does over the summmer and who he works with and just basically rest his body.
