Default SLAM Magazine: Jose Calderon

Well thought some of you might be interested, some parts might be hard to read but anyway here you go.

This is from the latest SLAM issue, if you don't know what it is, here is their website.

what's there to dispute? they're talking about last season, his shooting percentages and assist to TO ratio. no one is calling Calderon a bad teammate or anything of the sort. we are just upset with his play this year. he has not provided us with last season seasons play. i'm probably going to sound sour, but instead of trying to be hotshot all the time, why don't you read what people are saying about him. it's all legitimate criticisms.

i know, i'm unintelligent and Calderon is an elite guard...

What are you worried about SJ? It's just the usual SLAM fluff. Mention a few stats, quote a few players...it's the feel good story of the week Other than a few comments about Jose's rise to the elite of the league thrown in there there isn't much to dispute...and like you said..it is SLAM.

you do realize that despite the fact that he has been hurt all year, the only statistic that has not gone UP, is his feild goal %, which is slightly lower. He has improved upon every single stat.

I read what is said Jackass. And after you read enoug bullshit to fill a 100 acre farmers field, I guess you may miss the odd sensible statement, but for the most part, the people on the forum that have bad things to say are completely off base and talking out thier asses. Don't try to twist shit JAckson, yo uknow EXACTLY what I'm saying.

You guys hate on the guy so much, your argument for himm not being a top PG is that he isn't Deron or Paul.... big whoop. Your assertation that he is a hideous defender, albeit on track, is wonderfully overblown. Hell it's to the point where you guys are sayin ghe isn't even a starter on 1/2 the teams in the NBA.

It's ridiculous brother, and I don't accept that kind of rubbish.

It ain't a personal thing man, I just think it's unreal how stupid the flack he recieves here really is.

SJ

i don't give two flying shits if Calderon is a top guard or not. all it is, is a title given by fans to they can list who is who on the totem pole. it's meaningless.

fuck jose's injury. it's the mind frame he's playing with that is disabling him more than his injury. he's timid and afraid to make mistakes. his defense speaks for itself. i suppose masking him should solve those problems, right? man, i thought you played ball. start thinking like it instead of being an excuse generator. we have torap and moremilk for that.

heh.

Have you played any sport at all?

Anything at a high level?

I think no, but only because you steadfastly hold on to this opinion that injuries are an excuse, and not a reality.

You think an injury plays no havoc with how you play a game??? How you make decisions on any givin play???

I don't wanna get into some disrespectful argument, and I apologise if I have been that way, but honestly man, you have to at least TRY to look at things from a different angle. If this were no real injury issue, would he have missed this many games? Does Jose strike you as the type to wanna be outta the line up?

As for your comment on "top guards", give me a break, this is getting silly. Fans, players, media people, EVERYONE but you and a handful of other people here seem to like what he does.... why the fuck should we care what you think?

oh, he played the high level athletic card. oh no!

i know what injuries are, judge. i'm a runner and probably have a greater understanding of how serve a hamstring injury is and can be than yourself.

being that you've played something at a high level, you know that you can also build up a psychological wall that will prevent you from re-aggravate an injury by being complete hesitant from making certain movements. jose has been playing like this all season.

the only praise from the media i've seen about jose is his stats. the exact same thing that the fans NOT criticizing his play this season are saying.

I hope youre not implying SLAM is a bad magazine. Its by far the best of any bball magazine out there and they really dig deeper than what we see night in and night out. Their articles are very very good especially the ones where they interview the players because they dont give the cliche answers.

I just got the most recent magazine gonna read it at work tomorrow, should be good shit.

If this is the case then what are you going on about?

The guy is OBVIOUSLY hurting.... and his game has dipped as a result.

WTF do you want from him?

Let him get back to 100% and THEN judge him.

Lol... you say that people are full of excuses... well my friend.. the world of pro sports isn't always black & white. It isn't always as simple as saying "we lost, therefore we suck".

Are people judging him all that much, or just being critical, and rightly so? I agree that it's mostly mental, and I think he deserves criticism for that. He's obviously hurting now, but I was more critical of his play over parts of last season. Was he hurting then too? And does that make me a naughty detractor?

pro sports is black and white, torap.

players are paid to perform their job. everything that is between them and doing it is either results or excuses.

Keep talking brother man, you're dangerously close to simply agreeing with me. In fact you are, just not in so many words, I'm flattered. As far as playing cards, I ain't playing a card, I'm asking a question, and you answered it, exactly how I wanted you too.

So, all this aside, can I assume you aren't one of the Dafidils on thi ssite who would prefer to have this "bench player" gone, in return for some other player? It would seem that as soon as he is back to normal, and allowed to get comfortable running a little and playing this more open styleToronto has adopted, you're gonna be happy happy joy joy yes?

Good then, I think we are finished then.
