What if it had snowed 30 cms the night before, Derozan had just got a new pair of shoes, Lowry hooked up with a prostitute got the herp and Aaron Gray hadn't taken a $hit in 4 days? What do you do? What do you do?

Back to the topic. MU hasn't been a GM long enough that we can clearly say he is a top 5.

It wasn't us that said. It was Bill Simmons in his article.

He does likely have a top 5 reputation. That doesn't necessarily mean anything. Joe Dumars had that kind of reputation once. But it points to something better than the past bunch right now. I'll take it.

He handled the Melo trade very well and was able to get value back, the team did very well in the regular season, and not so much in the post season. To be honest they also didn't have any stars with the exception of AI last year, but I will be thrilled if we were to play like Denver and make the playoffs.
He handled the Bargs trade in a good way, did some nice moves so far. Cheap contracts for decent players. If he is the up and coming GM? Who knows, I think he is doing great so far. I am not saying he isn't a top 5 GM, just saying it's too early to judge.

What really gets me juiced is the ownership, GM, and coaching all being on the same page. That may or may not help Casey all that much. If he can get results it could mean something very stable throughout the organization. If not with him, there could be a good chance with his successor. The kinds of politicking that have plagued this organisation, and scarred everyone involved, except somehow Tannenbaum (which either verifies his true intentions or reveals a dark, evil heart) now becomes the kind of stuff that is an easy target for a guy in charge that looks for ways to get better. And when that shit gets shot down before it gets anywhere, that leaves a lot more room for guys like Ujiri and Casey or his successor to operate properly. If they ever get to the point where paying tax makes sense, and they do so without blinking, then we really will have seen the death of dysfunction.

If there's one thing Masai has shown as a GM both here and Denver, its that his ultimate goal is to maximize value when dealing players. He always sells high. Who the hell would think we'd get a 1st round pick for Bargs? And who'd think he'd get a boatload of young guys for a disgruntled expiring star who openly stated he's not staying?

Also he's great at mid-late 1st round drafting.

Ujiri drafted Faried with 22nd pick overall. Let's hope he could do the same in 2014 draft!!
