Default Simmons groups Raptors among 8 teams in East that can make Finals

Q: After watching Miami get rolled over in the Finals, how many Eastern Conference teams are saying to themselves right now, We can make the Finals next year!!! No, really, who’s stopping us????

I’m counting eight: Chicago (easily the best bet because of the Noah-Gibson-Carmelo-Butler-Rose potential), Indiana (can it flip Hibbert into a different asset?), Washington (hey, Wiz fans, you ready to wildly overpay Ariza and Gortat???), Charlotte (don’t forget, it has cap space and the no. 9 overall pick), Toronto (one more elite player away from being interesting), Brooklyn (if Brook Lopez can come back and Deron Williams miraculously turns into a franchise point guard again), Cleveland (loaded with tradable assets if it wants to go that way), and Boston (if it gets Kevin Love).

(Note to any Knicks fan: Please, for your own sanity, stop typing the “What about us?” email, delete it, and stare at your computer screen in silence for a few seconds until you crash back to reality. Thanks.)

we were 3rd.. I think we should go for 2nd. Chi should be better, I don't know how much improvements Indy will make.. but top 3 is still realistic

We were 3rd this year but next year will be tougher, wizards look better/Miami is miami,/ bulls healthy plus thibs obsession with reg. Season and pacers. It will be tough but it's possible to get 3rd

I think 4-6th is more realistic but it will depend on who is back and who is added. Then we'll have to stay healthy.

I dunno...we surged to 3rd in a damaged conference with teams transitioning, hurt players, etc and then barely held on as teams surged and got healthy. Chicago will be better with Rose back and whomever else they get, Was really started clicking, once the Nets figured out how to play we barely held them off and they didn't have Brook ( but they will this year), don't count out the Knicks yet, Atlanta was looking really good plus a 15th pick this year to add another piece and I like what the Magic are doing. And the Heat and Indiana both are still much better than the current Raps. Throw in the Cavs with most likely Blatt coaching and another top pick and honestly, the raps will be lucky to hold their division let alone complete for a top 2 spot.

Raps may eek a 6-8 spot but will again get bounced. Unless an elite talent comes the Raps are in a tough spot - and we all know how the Raps acquire elite talent, they don't. A lot is riding on MU to add that piece and having Ross and JV take a big step up but I see 2015 as the year of change.

We were also VERY fortunate to not have any major players injured for a prolonged period. Our season pretty much went as well as we could hope for.

fail to see how "we're one more elite player from being interested" is anything worth bragging about ... wondering how many more elite players away we are from being a contender ...

not that I disagree with simmons, and that article was pretty good (as per usual), at least from a readability standpoint.
