Raptors SI: Raptors need 4 or 5 amnesties

Quote:
Toronto Raptors | First-round pick: None

Needs: Four or five amnesty clauses

Soon after Ujiri was hired away from the Nuggets, rumors started kicking up that the Raptors wanted to find a way into the draft. Thatís all well and good, but this rosterís path to redemption begins with subtraction, not addition. Ujiriís summer homework will be finding a way to pass off one or two of the unnecessary contracts handed out by Bryan Colangelo. Once some dead weight is jettisoned, then we can begin the discussion about building around Jonas Valanciunas, DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Lowry and Rudy Gay.

Bargnani (which will be traded hopefully)
Kleiza
Fields (which can't be amnestied iirc)

Who else makes this list?
The post talks about 3 of the other candidates that could be on the list, but ... can't be.
Shrug.

It's funny because, when an author says the team will need 4 or 5 amnesties, I'd expect the comment to include a bashing of Demar and Rudy's deals due to the cost (an entirely separate issue from whether they can play).

But, instead, the author lists Rudy and Demar among the 4 players the team would build around later. Who the hell would he use the amensties on? Bargnani and Fields are the only other bad deals, and maybe Kleiza, although Linas's expiring modest contract might be needed to make a trade work, so it's not automatic. Does this guy actually think they should amnesty Amir? His contract is now solid. Johnson's contract being shitty is an old talking point that no longer applies. Silly.

I don't think we even have 5 contracts that Colangelo "handed out" on our current roster

Kleiza comes off at the end of the season. Sure there's a team out there willing to take the cap space next year in exchange for a 2nd round pick or something we can use.

Someone will take AB. He has the potential to spread the floor, he has shown some skills, maybe the right coach will be able to bring out his ability again.

Don't think we really need to use the amnesty.

I'd use it on Kleiza if he can't be moved. Although i'd keep him before AA. lol

Kleiza is expiring, Bargnani can be traded as well, Fields is serviceable, Amir and Rudy are core of the team.
SI doesnt know what they are talking about.

ya I don't see it either, you still need to fill your salary, you need contracts to make other deals,

having a kleiza could help later on if we become a playoff team, we can later make a move to strengthen our team in the playoffs if MU decides to go that way

landry has two years left. his last year becomes a valuable 8.5 million expiring contract you can throw in a deal for a team looking to shed salary

well Bargnani wont be back to start the season so not sure why we would be worried about his contract, he still has value and teams are interested in attaining his servicees

It's just badly used exaggeration. He points out that it's one or two bad contracts that need to be rectified. We're not in the draft, he found a point he could make, and then hit it a little too hard for effect instead of looking at what the team could really use if they get into the draft. No point in over-analyzing an overly simplified analysis.

the gist of the article is correct although more research couldve been done. point is this is a team filled with bad contracts (Thanks BC). and subtraction before addition is key.
