Should the Raptors try to go after Harrison Barnes?

Golden State doesn't seem to high on keeping him, and I feel like he could be a nice fit here in Toronto.

Well he's still on his rookie contract so I doubt they will let him go for cheap.
He has potential but so does Ross.

I would love to get Harrison Barnes here, but not sure what they'd be looking for. Wasn't there a rumor that they would like Amir for him?

rb 05-20-2014 02:13 AM

it almost feels like he should have been a raptor, him being picked one spot ahead of ross really pissed me off.

GSW won't be getting rid of Barnes unless they get a good player/1st rounder in return. I don't see us having a chance of getting him.

I'd trade our 20th for him.

He's definitely starter material.. If we got him for our 20th pick, that would be pretty sick. He'd solidify the starting SF spot, letting Ross play his natural position coming off the bench. If anything, they can fight for the starting spot :D

20th for Barnes would be a steal. Not happening though. I'd do greivas and 20th once we re-sign greivas

Kirby 05-20-2014 06:55 PM

No. Hell no.

That's too much IMO
If they are gong to try to make a run for Love we should look to get in 3team trade to get Barnes. Wolves will likely want cap flexibility and so Salmon's would be perfect. Wolves: Salmon's+sweeteners(Raps)+ Thomson+Lee(GSW)
Toronto: Barnes
GSW: Love

Barnes is overrated on imo

ok but what are the sweetners?

Carlos Danger 05-20-2014 07:36 PM

Greivis and our 20 would be a steal

I'd say our 2016 1st that's the only pick I would be willing to give up

LOG 05-20-2014 07:52 PM

Than again it all depends on who do we draft, if it's a good/serviceable SF we are not going to need Barnes

Ammo 05-20-2014 08:42 PM

Gotta ask yourself what each of Ross and Barnes will become. i.e. Are they comparable. Then you gotta ask what you would demand if we were to give up Ross.

pzabby 05-20-2014 08:49 PM

Barnes has more ability to guard big SF's/Sg's. then we have ross off the bench as an additional stopper in times of need/ offensivive able wing on the bench to go along with PPat. Just gotta sign a backup pg if we deal greivas.

I agree. I don't know if they would do it though

Putting in my own title.... Because I can

I don't like throwing Vasquez around as a name. I thought his playoff contribution was absolutely enormous. He loves Toronto and appears happy as a bench player.

He is one of the better back-up PGs around. I don't know what his next contract will look like but right now he is only being paid 2.5 M.

To clarify my playoff remarks it relates to aggressiveness when other guys shran away that reignited the team. We could use that off the bench for the next few playoff runs (I hope)

My question is, ignoring individual skill difference to Vasquez, what does Barnes bring to the team that we need?

I struggle to say unless there are greater plans in place.

I loved Barnes coming out of college. But Barnes is a far worse defender, turns the ball over more and the ball sticks with barnes. He just doesn't fit us right now. Unless we are willing to wait 3 years to see if he tuns it around. You ask me the 20th pick is about right or a little too much.
