Default Should the Raptors make a major acquisition in 2010?

Quote:
In the year of Chris Bosh’s impending free agency are the Toronto Raptors buyers or sellers in what should be a distressed market for teams trying to off load talent with long-term contracts?

Will MLSE permit Bryan Colangelo to take a financial risk to substantially up grade the talent on the Raptors?

Will the Toronto Raptors be buyers, sellers or bystanders?
Toronto Raptors: Buyers or Sellers in 2010?

I'd like to see the Raps risk entering luxury tax territory (like the Lakers, Celtics, Cavs, Magic, etc) and go after another team's "star" for expiring contracts. The NOH come to mind.

Should the Raps give up a young player (say Amir Johnson) if it could land them a David West?

Pointless.

Bosh and Bargs both here.

So unless they plan on moving Bosh especially in a S&T deal for major sg upgrade and depth, it is pointless ot go after someone like West.

If anybigman is available to get to add to either Bosh or Bargs I would like someone like Chandler.

David West is not the type of player the raps should ever try to acquire.
If Bosh stays, awesome... david west is redundant.
If Bosh leaves, Bargs takes over at PF....david west is redundant.

BC has some serious thinking to do over the next little while, and i hope to god David West is FAR from his mind.
if we lose Bosh and somehow replace him with David West we'd be the worst rebounding team in the history of the league... people say Bargs is the worst rebounding Center, and guess who's the worst rebounding PF? david west, thats who.
he's such a downgrade from Bosh its hilarious.

why look at getting another PF when our glaring need is a good starting SG... i love that DD is getting some burn, but he's a not a guy that will push us over the top. in order to succeed and be a big player in the East, we'll need a big time SG. and if a trade or aquisition is on the horizon, BC better be looking at that position.

If the Raptors are trying to get anyone, it should be Wade or Paul.

has spending really been the problem? we're already way over the cap and pushing the tax, we have lots of big long-term deals, he clearly has the go-ahead to pay Bosh the max, we can't add any more free agents... basically if we acquire any players we have to give up the same abmount of salary + or - 15%.

spending is not the issue at all. it's just a question of the mix of players.

The only thing that really concerns me right now (other than Bosh re-signing with us) is the Hedo/Bargs/Jose combo.

I really feel as though it'd be in our best interest as a team to rid ourselves of at LEAST 1 of these guys and acquire another defensive swingman in return.

Agreed. Spend whatever it takes to get em here, too.

i'm just going to keep repeating this in case it finally sinks in...

it is impossible to add another star to our team because we are capped out. unless we trade for wade or paul or anyone else who makes more than exception type money we have no ability to acquire them.

and if you think we have the trade assets to acquire wade or paul i'd love to hear your suggestions.

but it is 100% certain that we cannot just decide to pay more for those guys and get them. the collective agreement prohibits us from doing that. we are capped out. end of story.

Bosh needs to be moved in order to maybe get a top ranked player.

Although the goal of most teams is to get Bosh to pair with a star so I cant see them moving one for him.

get Bynum and expirings for him
get some stuff from Washington probably.

If the Raps want room to sign smeone he needs to be moved now for expirings.

Miami for JO

Only other option is a three way deal netting Houston some expirings and fillers for TMac.

Bosh to Miami for JO? Ha!
Could you imagine the fallout from a move like that, PR wise?

I wouldnt do it unless I was certain that he wasnt going to resign.

It would be nice having 23 million in capspace some this offseason if you know your franchise guy is moving on.

The ONLY trade that I would consider for Bosh (that MIGHT work for both sides) would be something like....

Bosh for Battier & Landry (HOU) + filler

And even then I'm not a huge fan.... just because it would leave us without an all-star and that's never a good thing.

But I'd hate that trade substantially less than others I've seen suggested.

I hear ya.
I'm not sure Toronto has the luxury of just clearing space like that in order to chase FA's.
Playing alongside Bosh might be the only real lure.

I would rather trade for MCGrady.

Banks, Amir, Farmar, Morrison, POB(About 13 million in expirings/depth) to Houston

Jose to LAL

McGrady, Lowrey, MBenga to Toronto.

Jack/Lowrey
McGrady/Demar/Beli
Turk/Wright/Weems
Bosh/POPs/Evans
Bargs/Rasho/MBenga

Team would be about 20 millionunder cap in offseason after adding a coule of second rounds picks and resigning all expirings(Weems, POPS, rasho) to 1 year deals again.

Houston would have to jump at that... getting morrison, farmar and POB? not to mention banks and amir? Wow... Champiionship time...

This trade rumour needs to die, and not slowly, more like off the next bridge passed... what a ridiculously one-sided offer... Houston loves ya!!!

Farmar is solid, the others add up to 12.3 million in expirings. That is huge. Move out McGrady and still have 13 million coming off the book in the offseason. That is pretty fair for a guy who hasnt played in a long long time and cost shitloads and could potential ruin something that any team receiving him has going for themselves currently.
