Shooting Guard Question...

I have a simple poll.

Would you trade Demar Derozan for James Harden straight up?

Yes?

No?

Dark Knight 08-22-2011 12:25 AM

Nope.

CommunistCrunch 08-22-2011 12:29 AM

Yes. Unless Demar can also grow a beard

Dark Knight 08-22-2011 12:29 AM

I guess I should elaborate a bit more here. James Harden is the perfect compliment player. He can pass, shoot, dribble, and even defend a little. Now, the reason I would not trade him for DeMar straight up is because of the potential DeMar possesses. This kid wants to be the best, and knows how hard he has to work to get to that level. And with that athleticism he has, I can see him someday becoming a very dangerous threat on the offensive side of things, and hopefully on the defensive end as well.

I can see Harden becoming a Ginobili type player, while DeMar has a chance to be an elite level player if he can put it all together. Call me crazy, but that's my honest opinion.

Right now, Harden is so much better..... potential can get you fired too.

I'd be happy with either though but Demar has a lot of work to do just to get to Harden's level. What gives me hope is the same way that Harden seemed to take a huge jump last year.....

Superjudge 08-22-2011 12:47 AM

Manu is pretty good man.

thought 08-22-2011 12:52 AM

in terms of bball IQ Harden is on another level altogether, and is much more refined in almost every aspect of the game - ball-handling, shooting, passing, play-making, defense, etc.

right now it's not close - i think if harden were on this team, and had the opportunities demar has, you'd see a 20/5/3 type of player. we'll see though, demar made a big jump from his first to second year, and i feel like he's got one more big jump in him. this will be a closer comparison after next season, whenever that is.

Totally agree, but Manu cannot carry an offense. Nor is he a "franchise guy". Like I said, Harden is an excellent secondary option and is admittedly the better player right now, but in a few years it could easily be the other way around.

Blaze 08-22-2011 02:01 AM

I've thought about this before, idk. Harden is easily better than Demar right now but his room for growth isn't as much. The sky's the limit for Demar and can really be something special, I just don't see that in Harden.

finstock 08-22-2011 02:44 AM

Considering the state of the franchise, shoot for the moon with Demar. Harden's a safer bet, but Demar offers the bigger payout.

Superjudge 08-22-2011 03:20 AM

great feedback guys. I love what I'm reading.

I thought about this after seeing Harden play in the playoffs. He wasn't the same guy I saw in his rookie year. He seemed, like a man. he got it, he dug in HARD on defence, and he played with a certain intensity. thats why it is an intriguing question to ask for me. I voted YES to get the ball moving but my honest answer is I don't know what I'd do.

halphbreedballer 08-22-2011 08:12 AM

No to a trade straight up

SoGood 08-22-2011 09:36 AM

Even though I love DeMar and the athleticism he brings, I would trade him for Harden right now.

Harden is just a lot craftier than DeMar. DeMar's type of play is more susceptible to injury.

jeffb 08-22-2011 10:19 AM

yes

OKC wouldn't do this

Acie 08-22-2011 10:28 AM

Does it really matter?

They both got schooled by Kobe.

Not to mention, one was drafted 3rd overall and while the other was taken 9th in the same draft.

Could you imagine if Colangelo had used the 3rd overall on a 6th man.

ValanciunasFanboy 08-22-2011 10:36 AM

Absolutely.

he's the sixth man on an excellent team. do you think he'd be the sixth man here? hell, derozan shouldn't have been starting in his first season.

ValanciunasFanboy 08-22-2011 10:41 AM

Reading the comments - I've no idea why some of you guys think DeMar has more potential. Home bias? To me, Harden is clearly better now, and huge upside.

LX 08-22-2011 10:43 AM

I dare say that Harden would look pretty shitty on a shitty team. Well, not shitty, but it would be much harder to assess what he can offer. The two players are both going to need the right personnel around them to succeed. So it would be the other moves made to fill out this team that would be as important if not more so.

While Harden might be slightly more skilled at the moment, although less athletic, I'm sure DeRozan would look just as good playing against other teams bench players or playing alongside Durant and Westbrook.
