One of the dumbest articles I've read lately. Way to try and jam a square peg into a round hole to try to justify 29th. Shallow and vapid.

This says a lot....

That being said, Jason Kidd and Marcus Camby still have some life left in them, they retained their most important free agent (it was Steve Novak, not Jeremy Lin), and Amar’e has been schooled (in a good way) by Hakeem.

His points are valid: the Fields contract is a tough pill to swallow, and Jonas will be foul prone. But this is a team that, without its best player for most of the year and a D League infiltrated starting lineup, couldn't sniff a much desired 29th place finish last year.

Kings, Cavs, Pistons, Cats, Suns, Rockets. There's at least six teams we're clearly better than.

A few observations about the site, in order to clear up so potential confusion about the quote and the ranking.

1 - The site is sloppy in the way that they represent the views of their authors. The Power Rankings article was done by Sheridan, the head writer for the site, but the link to further analysis, directs you to an article done by another author on that site, named Bernucca.

2 - Bernucca is the author Jeff quoted. Bernucca actually thinks the Raps are capable of winning 40 games. He says so in his August 27th article. His prediction for the season is more positive than Sheridan.

3- So keep that in mind. The passage quoted by Jeff was written by someone who thinks the Raps would finish quite a bit higher. That passage is not the reasoning for why the Raps would finish 29th, nor should it be viewed as such.

4 - This site is actually pretty accurate in the sense that a number of sites I've stumbled across have writers who seem to disagree wildly about where certain teams will finish. Some think the Raps could win 40 if Bars and Lowry stay healthy, others think the Raps will be lucky to win more than 25. It is what it is.

TLDR; the power ranking and the quote are from two different authors.

Yes Sheridan hates you guys, but at least he ranked the Blazers above the Pistons.

True dat!
Power Rankings should only be used after teams have played 3+ games...
This should have been called: Ranking the NBA's off season moves

Why wouldn't the Lakers be considered the best? They added the best centre in the game and a PG who was supposed to be our Jesus. that's on top of an already crazy talented roster.

then there's us on the opposite end of the spectrum. why wouldn't we be considered bottom dwellers? We brought in a decent PG, but we also brought in one of the most questionable free agent signings; so far our draft pick doesn't look all that hot and thie players currently on the team havn't exactly shown much since the loss of Bosh.

It is what it is. I know we're raptor fans here, but many people aren't looking at thsi team in a glass half full kind of way. We're going to have to actually do something to start to change people's perceptions, and teams like the lakers will actually have to falter to change perceptions. It is what it is.

Thinking we're better than we were last year when were the 22nd worst team in the NBA is optomistic? OK

Thinking we're better than 29th isn't optomistic, it's self preservation. As for leaf fan mentality, i was one for 30yrs maybe that thinking will always be there unfortunately. lol

I think it's an example of lazy biased bullshit American "journalism": "Toronto? Who cares. They've been bad so long they'll probably suck this year too."

I think Casey is going to be trying hard to make the Raptors a top ten defensive team this year. Add some decent offense to that and you don't get a team that's starting the year at the second from bottom position.

last year we tried our best and still couldn't be the 2nd worse team, there's no way we finish 29th

OK first off you make it sound like 22nd is decent - it isn't. it sucks. second off we won meaningless games last season to boost our record to a point that didn't really indicate our true quality. Remember hearing about how bad we were at tanking?

We got a couple nice additions, but most teams improve in the offseason. It's what offseasons are for. Question is whether we improved enough? I'm not sure. I hope so, but who knows. You make it sound like we're WAYYY better and it would be crazy if things didn't go our way. news flash: things haven't gone our way pretty much ever in this team's history.

yup. for years. Oh the irony.

When Oneal came, we were going for home court advantage in the playoffs. Same with Hedo. When we lost Bosh we were still good enough to sneak in to 8th. We were challenging for 8th last season too.

First off that was my point, how is it optomistic to think we're better than 22nd when that sucks. Second, how would you know we won meaningless games....you've barely watched a game the last two seasons by your own admission.
