Shawn Marion as an option

With Shawn Marion in his option year and little progress in his contract, what do you think it would take to get him away from the Heat? and would he be worth giving up Andrea Bargnani and Anthony Parker or some combination thereof? i have seen a few names of guys available to play the 3 that could help this team, but not sure what we would be required to give up. I would love to see a front line of Chris Bosh, Jermaine O'Neal and the Matrix with Bargs off the Bench.

other names i have read...

Charlotte’s two wings - Jason Richardson and Gerald Wallace
Dallas - Josh Howard?
Denver - JR Smith
Miami - Shawn Marion
Milwaukee - Michael Redd

any thoughts?

We won't get any of those players in a trade.

No way Toronto can accommodate 3 max contracts. Marion's expecting nothing less that $20 million per year after this season. We can't have close to $60 million taken up in just 3 players next season. Not feasible in the slightest.

marion can expect all he wants, he'll be lucky to get 50 millions (spread over 4-5 years). So far he's only proving what many believed, that he's a product of the Phoenix offense and Steve's presence. It may or it may not be the case, the reality is that ever since he left, he's struggling, despite playing with a big star in d-wade.

and it would be a major mistake to trade Andreea for a player who is expiring next season - unless you believe Andreea is a bust (which for some reason some lost souls still do).

you see trades dont just come easy. we need to give a lot to get a lot. put yourself in the other teams situation. Would you trade Redd, Marion, or Howard for anyone on our team excluding Bosh Bargs JO and Jose? Its just not going to happen. If a deal did go through in some way we would be giving up Bargs and more bench players. We would gain a stronger starting line-up but getting an even weaker bench. This wouldnt help us. We are dominating teams with our starters on the floor but then bench always gives up the lead.
bottom line is we need to make a trade for depth, not for an even stronger starting lineup.

The Raps have to trade at least 3 players to get Marion. We will have no depth.

exactly.

He was an idiot for wanting out of Phoenix in the first place. Maybe he thought a little too highly of himself? Either way, he fucked up and is now playing in a crappier situation and is struggling to put up good numbers.

I would HATE to have Marion on my team.

No Marion, no Marbury, no Stackhouse

Since we're talking about players that we would like to have but are hard to get put my name down for bringing Danny Granger to Toronto.

I remember someone putting forth the option of obtaining Stackhouse

This is what Doug Smith said

"Right, Jerry Stackhouse. He’s the answer.

He’s the answer because the Raptors really, really, really need an unathletic 34-year-old who is shooting 29 per cent from the field this year and who has missed 13 of the 16 three-pointers he’s taken.

Now those numbers may skewed because he’s not playing a lot so let’s put it this way:

The Raptors really, really, really need an unathletic 34-year-old who is shooting 29 per cent from the field this season and who has missed 13 of his 16 three-pointers he’s taken this year coming off a 2007-08 season in which he shot 40 per cent from the field and 33 per cent from three-point range."

I'd love to get my hands on Walter Hermann from Detroit or Andres Nocioni - in terms of less flashier names - but even that will take a lot.

Good call re: Hermann.

I don't know if it would take that much though, as he doesn't get much playing time at all. Maybe BC could call up dumars and do a Delfino type trade part2?

I've liked his game for a while. I think he'd be a great fit here.

Nocioni i could see taking a lot more, but who doesn't love Andres?

Graham for Heerrmmaann.

He was really playing good ball his last two months in Charlotte, which was just a year after losing something ridiculous like 5 family members in a year and being able to speak absolutely no english. He's lost in Detroit, and in Toronto he might feel a little more comfortable.

Graham is done in TO but has the muscle that could fit in with Detroit.

The GMs should make it happen, it would make sense, and their would be no pressure to give either player playing time, although both players have the potential to get in the 8 man rotation.

hard to know ugo, i would suggest these guys all think they are max guys! hard to play with D-Wade and struggle unless he has other issues. i know he has struggle with nagging injuries, but i do agree that his offense was directly a result of the high-octane offense steve nash and the suns ran as he cleaned up a lot of misses off the wing..

yup, perfect PB. You wanna send an email to BC?

I can't think of a better, more realistic deal in all honesty.

ughhh marion.
another example of a guy who gets put in a really great situation, yet his ego gets the better of him and he bolts...
the suns system and steve nash made him.
i dont see any team going over 9 million a year for his services.
LOL, he expected 20....
hahahahahaha

Marion only works with a full-court offense, which the Raptors are far from having. He would not be good in Toronto. We would NOT get the Pheonix Suns Marion. Sorry if someone already said this, I didn't read the thread.

Marion will go to a team that has tons of cap space and that wants a "pseudo-star" to put fannies in the seats (ie Memphis)
