I've heard this before?? When was it again?? Oh yea.... last summer. I know ppl are excited, but let's not JO the situation up and assume he will be something he hasnt been in a couple years, and that his attitude and me 1st mentality will suddenly disappear by crossing a border. Im hoping it works out, but im remaining VERY reserved in my expectations.

I think people are very reserved with their judgment on Marion. Everyone knows the story. We're hopeful that he meshes well and performs up to his skillset.

Thanks bmats for the recap but honestly do we play a run and gun style because to me it doesn't seem like it

He seems genuinely happy to be here. You can tell by Looking at his body language. He's seems really excited.

i think we can now. we didn't have the personnel before, and the goal was to try to exploit the 'twin towers' philosophy through a tough, interior minded half-court team. clearly that didn't work, and they shipped the anchor of that half-court set off for a guy who likes to run. i think jose will prefer this lineup and the team should be ready and able to start running more.

are you suggesting he prefers playing a half court game? all i'm sayingis that this is what he wants, not this is where he is guaranteed to succeed.

just couldn't resist an opportunity to be negative eh ugo?

No, im saying alot of you want to judge him by this years performance, just as he may be judging us on the potential of this years performance if he even wants to stay. He wants to run, great, we have a very banged but guy that even when healthy isnt a great runner, i dont see this as a recipe for success or happiness unless Jose really, once and for all gets healthy and returns to last years level. I really want it to happen, but i guess im negative, given what ive seen from Jose, he hasnt been right all year and i think it will take some months to get it all sorted out. So much in fact, if we dont come out blazing in the 1st 10 games, i would sit him the rest of the year. Then how do we properly evaluate Marion?

I don't see how this becomes a running team all of a sudden, or how Jose becomes happier when he's the guy that pulls back on so many breaks, and that's just not when he's hurting. I think they'll definitely run more, and they should get more offensive boards. So maybe they move towards some kind of an identity, and personally I hope it gels around Marion's defensive abilities as much as his inclination to run.

If the Raps couldn't run with finishers like Moon and Graham on the wings they probably won't be able to now. Marion and Moon are pretty similiar in that respect.
It comes down to two things: the PG's willingness to push the ball and attack, and the bigs ability to rebound and toss a good outlet pass. The Raps biggest problem last season was rebounding. JO was brought in to address that need, who's going to clean the glass now? Not to mention that Bosh is a pretty brutal passer.

The first part is jokes.

ES: How does it feel?

Shawn: It's like going from a 5ht place team to a team five games below a playoff spot.

LOL also he stutters a lot
BTW thanks for the link

No problem Gurk... I also noticed that he stutters a lot... not sure if he talks that way all the time or if he is just pissed to be moved to a bad team.

Marion states that he prefers the, run-and-gun, style. Unfortunately, that's not how they do things here do they?

Well, that's the idea, whether they've been successful at it or not is a different matter entirely

What kind of scares me is that he mentioned in Miami, they played a half-court game and the offense ran through D-Wade. Then he drops this gem...

Quote:
"And we were winning and stuff but I wasn't as effective as I could be."
The question that was asked of him was related to how he fit (or didn't fit) in Miami, but I always have concerns about players like Marion who are more worried about themselves than the team winning. That's why he wanted out of Phoenix: the franchise was in love with Nash, and not him.

I remain optimistic as I am with almost any change, but there's a lot of work ahead yet, and for a team that hasn't shown any mental toughness this season, I'm a little skeptical that this team won't brickwall at the next obstacle.

Shawn Marion's game doesn't exactly lend itself to a plodding, pedestrian halfcourt style.

So when the newest Raptor sat down with coach Jay Triano to talk about his role with Toronto, Marion was happy to hear there would be more than a little running involved.

"The way coach basically explained it to me, we're going to get up and down the court a little bit more, it's going to be more fun to go out there and just play ball basically,"

I don't see how this team can't be a running team, Bargs and Bosh aren't exactly bangers for their positions. Looks like Caldy is slowing the team down, I wonder what happens if Ukic gets more time at the point.
