Default Seriously, let's talk about Kapono's Vertical

Ok, a group of friends and I were just talking about our great 3 pt shooter. It's come to ALL of our attentions that our beloved Kapono has no hops, seriously.

When's the last time you saw him dunk? I remember during a Knicks game, Kapono was trailing Nate for a fast break dunk. He was right on que to block him, but as he lifted off to attempt a block, Kapono barely got off the ground and it looked as though he jumped 2 inches off the ground. The Knicks play-by-play reporter was even making fun of him quoting, "If Kapono had any hops, that would have been an EASY deny".

Also, on any of his fast breaks he just does those little one-hander put-ins. During shootaround before the games, I have seen all of the Raptors hanging on the rim. Even Jose has done it at everygame I've watched when I've gotten to the ACC early.

It's kinda of sad... standing 6"8 almost 9, Jason is unable to touch the rim of the basketball net. Now I know it isn't as big a deal but man oh man, I'm almost 6" with no athleticism and I can finger the rim.

It's funny though, in Nba 2K9 Kapono gets up really easy to dunk. I guess the makers just assumed that he could because it would be funny as hell if he couldn't.

Exactly, I couldn't care if he could dunk or if he couldn't dunk. He's a good NBA player. As Barkley says, even the worst NBA player is a good basketball player.

It doesn't matter if he can dunk or not, he isn't gonna win any dunk championships all he needs to do is make those 3

people say Kapono's vertically challenged, as with Antoine Walker

I'm not talking about him as a player, just as an individual who has height and is unable to do something. I didn't say anywhere that he suxors cuz he can't dunkorz, as a matter of fact he's one of my more favoured raps for having some bball IQ.

However when we talk about him being a sole athlete, I find it amusing. You'd imagine an athlete who gets paid 5 million dollars a season would be able to do something thats athletic.

I guess being the greatest three-point shooter in NBA HISTORY means nothing when considering who is an athlete and who is not.

What you are basically saying dooodo, is that Tiger Woods isn't an athlete either, let alone one of the greatest of our generations. I mean cmon, how athletic do you have to be to hit a ball?

Justify yourself. I actually think Kapono is one of the harder working guys on the team. He's had to compensate for his "lack of athleticism" with hard work. He defends the passing lanes better than some of our more "athletic" defenders (cough Jamario), plays help D better than some of our more "athletic" defenders (cough Jamario and Chris Bosh), and he sure as hell gets to the rim more than Jamario does.

Tell me, what's your definition of lazy?

Kapono plays like 25-30min a game. I think that's plenty athletic.

This forum is getting more and more like RGM everyday. The overreactions after a win or loss only thinking in the what have you done for me lately mentality, stupid posts about nothing, asking WHY DIDNT WE GET THIS PLAYER after ANY trade is made in the league even for an absolute cancer like Francis.

The Raptors need to start winning because Raptorsnation is going crazy.

Who's comparing Jkap to Tiger? What I'm saying is that it's dumb to say someone is not an athlete because they can't do something athletic like dunk a ball.

That isn't true. I'm assuming you're making a bad assumption.

He dunks easily, I saw him do it on Television.

He just doesn't.

Jose can too, and well I might add, as can Nash and a lot of other non-dunking types.

They don't see the value in killing thier joints I would imagine.

Kapono is the opposite of Parker. Im not a expert on the subject, but their is two kinds of movement, fast-twitch and slow-twitch, ( I think, I could be way off base), Kapono's movements are extremely quick, quick hands, quick feet, he steps quickly, he jumps quickly, he just doesn't step big or jump high. Parker's movements are really slow but big, big steps, big jumps, but you see them coming a mile away.

I've studied this a bit. The muscles have bundles of fast twitch and slow twitch fibres.

Slow twitch are what a marathon runner uses and fast twitch are what a sprinter uses if that makes any sense.

he's a smart player for sure. he makes very good decisions. you never really care if he throws up a jumper.
he's lazy. he doesnt cover his man on defence. he doesnt move around the court as often as he should on offence.
i know he doesnt have the athleticism most guys have in the NBA but if you watch kapono, he doesnt try as hard as he could.

the greatest shooter has got to be reggie miller.
stats aside, there isnt anyone else id want to take a game-winning 3-pointer with 4 seconds left in game 7 of the NBA finals.

From what I see, Kapono hustles his ass off for the most part. I definitely wouldn't call him lazy.

Fair, but I would attribute his weak perimeter D more to his lack of athleticism than his so called laziness.
