Default Season can still be saved, says Eric Smith to RR

PHD: Is there still time this season for the Raptors (as currently constructed) to turn things around? If yes, what needs to happen?

ES: Given how jumbled the East is between #7 and #14, I’d say there is still PLENTY of time to turn things around. Can the Raps make it back to .500 or go above .500? That may be tough. But just get me to the post-season and I’ll take my chances from there. We’ve seen enough upsets in many sports - not just basketball - to be able to say an “upset” is possible against the likes of Boston, Cleveland, Orlando, etc. (maybe not probable - but possible).

As I said in another thread this afternoon, we can still make a run for the playoffs but unfortunately only after JO is dealt for much needed help whether it Marion, Odom or whomever. If we're stuck with Jermaine for the remainder of the season, I'm not confident this team can really be taken serious from here on out. And just to be clear, firing Triano right now isn't going to make a difference either, because coaching clearly isn't the only problem here in Toronto. Alot of the accountability now is on the players hands. Time for them to step up.

I am not sure about coaching change; if BC can find a good coach I would like to hire him as soon as possible. The new coach can start to implement his system for the remaining of season and avoid an awful start next season. They still can have the target to sneak in playoffs but would not be necessary a MUST. The key should be improvement of game, teach the new strategy and develop our young core.

I like Eric and Doc but I think the story has been told. Raptors would need some kind of amazing run in them. Like the Davis lead team that I mentioned in my blog a few days ago. I don't think any move they make at this point can make that run a reality. Besides what is the true gain other then a few playoff dates for MLSE to have the Raptors sneak in the back door and get swept by Boston, Cleveland or Orlando.

lol - you can't fire triano since he's not really hired to begin with ...
You don't need to fire him, since he doesn't have a contract - he's day to day basically.

Apparently, established coaches don't like to start mid-season, because they like teams to bid for them during the off-season. Plus, taking on a team mid-season is not easy and they have nice win records to protect ...

Of course it can, the teams in 8th and 9th are the Bucks and Nets... I don't think anybody is scared of them.

IMO Charlotte is a team to watch out for... they're good.
