Default Searching for '93: Some Questions for Chris Bosh

The article was a blast to read because it reminded me of a piece I read when I scanned the Sports Illustrated vault (fun website) a couple of months ago. It’s an article called Appreciating Bonds by Jeff Pearlman. Some years later, Mr. Pearlman wrote a book called Love me, hate me: Barry Bonds and the making of an antihero.

The first article is genuinely jaw-dropping to read after the fact. You could make the argument that it’s the right up there with Rick Reilly’s love letter to Mark McGwire as the most ridiculous steroid era sports articles.

So how does that relate to Doug Smith’s article?

Chris Bosh, going into his seventh season, puts on 20 pounds of muscle. Really? And all we get is lighthearted analysis of how this will effect his quickness? How about the following questions:

* Could you please, in detail, explain your workout regimen and diet?
* Why did it take six full years as a professional for you to start lifting weights? Or, if you lifted weights before, why didn’t we see such noticeable results?
* Do you think PED use is common amongst NBA Players?
* Did you use PED’s this off season to change your body?
* Do you intend to change the photo on your Facebook Fan Page from a shirtless pic anytime in the immediate future?

I’m not actually kidding. Even about the last question. (Please change the photo.)

In 2009, nobody is above suspicion. Right?

So, please… Would one of the Raptor beat reporters nut up and ask Chris Bosh what he puts in his body?

He was asked by Feschuk at the end of last season.

Its common for athletes to grain or lose 20 pounds during offseason
I knew people transitioning from high school football to college and they had 3500 calories each day and had to drink powdered drinks and work out twice a day in order to gain the same amount of weight

It is pretty funny how so many people insist that he hasn't gotten bigger, and now he's getting accused of being the next Bonds. Nice.

a bit off topic but related to Bosh
It looks like the American dollar and Canadian dollar are equal value now, if the $CND continues to gain in strength how does this effect the team?
Are the players paid in $CND or $U.S.?
this strength in the $CND means more $$$ for MLSE in terms of gate receipts, merchandise, sponsorships, local TV revenue

the players are paid in $us. the dollar is almost at parity, but it was for a time a year or so ago as well, and it still fell back to $0.80. it's just too fickle for mlse to bet on. they will continue to make conservative decisions, and if the dollar stays at parity they will pocket the difference. tehy're not going to spend more because of a strong dollar. it's just not their style.

Why? He busted his ass and gained 15-20lbs. Thats nothing on a 6'10" frame. The insinuation that he is juicing is ridiculous.

* Why did it take six full years as a professional for you to start lifting weights? Or, if you lifted weights before, why didn’t we see such noticeable results?

This is a fair question, but one that can be chalked up to immaturity and a reliance upon natural talent. It's a VERY common thing in Pro Sports to see young men turn to the weight room after they have matured in the league for a few years. It can be credited to many different factors, but I'm not going to get into them. In a perfect world he would have hit the weights hard when he was 18. He didn't. Just be happy he found um now.

The NBA's PED testing isn't on par with MLB. Bosh could have flown under the radar while using PED's and then cleansed his system, who knows? I trust his integrity though. I don't think he would jeopardize his long term health to get jacked as there is no huge benefit to justify the risk. He's not getting paid by the pound. He was already a max money candidate at 20lbs lighter. My question to Bosh would be, why pack on 20lbs of muscle and focus on your long range game? I mean really...Why no focus on low post fundamentals? Why aren't we hearing about him working out with the Dream or Ewing over the summer? That's what I want to hear. 20lbs of muscle means little if you're camped outside the paint.

yeah, he should have asked him if he's using PED, because the answer to that questions is very unpredictable ...

what's the point of asking rethorical questions?

A few things about this insanity....

1. Why do you guys think a 6'10" dude would need to Juice to put on 20lbs in 5 months??? It's ridiculous. With a frame like that, a personal trainer and an unlimited budget, a guy like Bosh could have packed on 50 lbs, easily, if he were on the juice.

2. Using PED's for a few months does nothing for your long term health, Doctors give them to people all the time. Prolonged use of ANY hormone replacement supplement will hurt you, hell it can kill you in extreme cases, but short term use isn't going to do anything but help you train harder and see better gains.

3. From what I have seen from Bosh, he's already more agressive. He's battling down low. Improving your range is incredibly important if you plan to be a slasher. If you're guarding me, and I can't hit the 23 footer, what chance do I have of gaining a step on you and getting to the glass????

I am open to critique, but come on man, there is absolutely ZERO reason to be anythig but happy for this guy, he did everything asked of him by his fans and coaches.... Grange, is stirring the pot, nothing more, nothing less.

Never said I thought he was juicing. I used character, you used biology but we both arrived at the same conclusion.

It depends on the drug and the amount taken...

The guy has a mid range game that forces guys out of the paint. He get's to the line 10 times a game and if I remember correctly, that's good for top five in the league. His penetration ability and tools to gain an advantage in the area are very good, his bread and butter. He's been weak down low in the post. I'd like to see him start banging with people in the paint on both sides of the ball if he's adding mass.

If he parks his ass in the paint to bang he is no longer a triple threat. (basic BBALL stuff)

I want him to move to the next level, his body will keep growing, and with it, his comfort in the paint will grow....

that said. if you wanna maximize your game, you have to extend your range. Bosh with a reliable game outside the arc is downright frightening for the opposition. Besides, what part of his game is being hurt by working on his range???? None.

When you have two big men like Hedo and Andrea don't you think a strong post game would help take the team to a higher level? I'm mean we're talking about two perimeter oriented big men. Seeing how Bosh is the most versatile, talent player out of the three and seeing as he naturally draws double teams and just added 20lbs of muscle would he not serve the team best by moving closer to the basket to free them up for more good looks? Bosh has never adequately used his ability to date to help generate offense through others. If he wants to be great he needs to become a great passer; drawing players in and finding good outlet options and hitting them with the pasd. Duncan and Garnett do this well, they're both excellent passers for big men.

Good golly. Why hasn't he worked with Ewing? That's a question to ask? How about asking what working with Ewing has done for anybody?

Those were examples of two guys who made a name playing in the paint, two hall of famers. You're going to try and tell me that a guy like Ewing could not help someone become better in the post through one on one work? The point wasn't who anyway, it was what.
