boy that's great for creating space to get a good look at those 22 foot fade aways.

That 2009 DraftExpress report on Gay sounds like it could have been written last month.

I was naively hoping that the core of this team could learn to play differently than they do, but I guess that's not likely.

Gay is 2nd in blocks, 6th in steals, 3rd in rebounds and 7th in FTA and 6th in scoring among all SFs. That is All star production right there and his defense CAN be great.

Rudy Gay is a major talent that is being wasted for a variety of reasons.

Even as it stands, for all his selfishness (which as I recall, was far less visible last season), we'd be a much better team if we had a bench. It's the lack of production from the bench that makes our starters work overtime and it's possible that it also makes them to things outside their comfort zone.

I think the hate for gay right now is absolutely ridiculous and he's being made responsible for all that's bad with our team. Him and casey that is.

It's not about creating space, it's about using space that has already opened up, and in that regard I think it makes him more efficient than other players. Lebron gets an open driving lane and he barely makes use of the space that is there. If Rudy sees that nobody is in the paint he can efficiently use all of it and even still keep the ball close enough to defenders that they will be off balance from swiping at it and find themselves off-balance when the missed layup falls off the rim.

I agree. The hate for him is waranted to a degree but this has gotten ridiculous imo.

Again it seems like you aren't really watching games. Where does he rank among dribbles through the legs and turnovers? Have you even looked at his shot chart? There's no way to see all-star talent that is being wasted there.

You're right, he shouldn't get all the blame - ultimately that all lands right in Colangelo's lap.

yeah, well maybe he shouldn't do that then, that's why we have a coach. All the good things he does will still happen if he stops trying to beat his man off the dribble even if he's double and triple teamed.

Josh Smith used to shoot a lot of 3s until his coach got him do stick to his strengths and he made it to the all star game after that.

However, just because he is doing a lot of dumb things on the floor, doesn't mean the good things he's doing are irrelevant. If his salary was 12-14M, we'd have no trouble trading him.

Finally, the fact you managed to bring in colangelo in this discussion shows that you don't care much about the argument, just trying to score some points in a battle that ended months ago.

I agree, but the fact is his offensive game is heavily based in the mid range, where he's not shooting well and hasn't been for a while. It's not only Rudy's fault we suck, it's due to his contract, him being the number 1 option which should never happen, and the fact that the rest of our team is not playing at the level we would need to in order to compete.

yes, but he's more than able to get to the rim, it's just knowing when to drive and when to pass. It could take a while for even a good coach to get him to play properly, and he may not even be coachable, who knows. But he definitely has the tools to be a star and I think his shooting is underrated, in the proper situation he could shoot well. His percentages are destroyed by shot selection mostly.

He's more than able to get to the rim, but when he gets there he fails miserably. Again - any thought of checking the shot chart? I haven't seen it, but i would bet that it is miserable not just from where he is making poor shot selections, but around the rim as well. I don't know how anyone can watch him and see anything star-like. And then make excuses for him, and Colangelo. It's just a fucking mess for this team. Period.

I heard so much about how DeMar couldn't shoot, had no handle, and low bbiq, and now that we see a dude unarguably displaying those attributes, and getting paind twice what Demar gets, i get to hear how that dude is a misused star. He's damaged goods with no leadership abilities. He had trouble with the shoulder again last game. His days of realizing any kind of potential are over. As much as he has been decent enough defensively - but hardly noteworthy in that respect.
