Acie is correct, but despite all that, you couldn't have Garbo off the floor because the man was a winner and with the game on the line he found ways to make a positive out on the court in some way, often without it showing up in the boxscore.

Garbo would of been a key player on any team's 8-man rotation before his injury. At least any of the teams trying to win a championship and not 'rebuilding'. Garbs was a champ.

For a franchise that had only two teams of note in their history, and Garbs being a key player on one of those teams, he needs to be included on a list of 30.

This saddens me. His defense was not average at best. In terms of abilities, he was constantly overmatched, whether he was defending guys much larger or much quicker. And yet he regularly made up for the differences, and not only kept his own guy under wraps pretty well, but disrupted plays with very smart help defense and rotating beautifully. He did much more than play hard. He played smart. An under the radar impact player, but one that made the kind of impact that gave his team the necessary edge it needed, one way or another.

On the road - not so much. I don't think he would have been run out of town - that's just crazy talk. I really think he would have become more comfortable on the road.

I agree, and run out of town is obviously exaggerated. But i kind of think that he would have ended up kind of like Anthony Parker who wasn't run out of town but when his contract expired many fans didn't want him back because he had lost a step. I liked Garbo a lot for the reasons you mentioned but i also think he was a little overrated here.

He was good in big moments, as bjjs says. Guys like that don't get run out of town.

Even when he returned post-injury, he played pretty well when he could be afforded 3+ days rest. Unfortunately without the extra rest he more than lost a step and was useless. I would have loved to have seen him in the playoffs had his leg not snapped in half.

I'd say later Raptors version on his so-so days, and later Knicks version on his good days. Reggie Slater might not be a bad comparison had Slater managed to become a seasoned vet rather than playing a handful of games for many years before coming to the Raptors.

I always imagined you to be a rock and roll Garbajosa. I guess I will stop thinking as much so as to not be perceived as over-rating you.

The all-star Magic Johnson, or the Magic Johnson that coached the celebrity team before the all-star game?

if there was a celebrity rock band, acie would make an excellent coach. the setlist would be killer. i'm thinking he's more like the michigan state magic, though. dominant and does everything with a smile, even when his teammates are amateurs.

#28 Kevin Willis

Quote:
Kevin Willis’ Raptors résumé:

-11th in franchise history in rebounds
-One of six Raptors to average 12 points and eight rebounds in a season

One center who actually looked like he belonged in the NBA while wearing a Raptors uniform was Kevin Willis. Entering his 14th season out of what would be an amazing 21 NBA seasons, Willis was traded by the Houston Rockets to the Raptors in June 1998 for Roy Rogers and two 1998 first round draft picks that the Rockets would later use to draft Bryce Drew and Mirsad Turcan. (Pointless trivia that might amuse only me: Drew was the 16th overall pick while Turcan went 18th overall. The pick between them was Rasho Nesterovic!)

If you had to pick one thing that stood out about Kevin Willis, it would definitely be his physique. Willis was renowned for his dedication to physical fitness — from observing his muscular frame, it wasn’t difficult to believe the reports that he could bench press over 400 pounds. He used that conditioning and strength to great effect on the boards, even though he was handicapped by short arms and surprisingly small hands considering his seven-foot height.

This list so far is kind of depressing. I would what the Lakers Top 30 list looks like.
