Default Sam on tonight's ceremony for Dalembert

Agree or disagree with Smitch's reaction on tonight's pre-game ceremony for Samuel Dalembert saluting him playing for Canada this summer?

From Doug Smith's blog:

They’ll give him a “framed commemorative piece” according to the press release I’m reading (I presume they’ve run out of soapstone carvings and donuts) and all will be sweetness and light in the arena.

Don’t expect Sam Mitchell to get all warm and fuzzy. At shootaround today, he seemed less than impressed.

"Did the leave anything out?" Sam The Coach wondered. "Can they fly his mom and dad in or something? "All I can say is we’re supposed to be the home team. We’re supposed to make the visiting team be as uncomfortable as possible."

Dalembert, as you all know, got his Canadian citizenship and passport last summer, just in time to lead Canada to a fifth place finish at the FIBA Americas Olympic qualification tournament.

meh. i'm not thinking anything of it. He was probably just trying to be his usual Smitch-self.

Personally, i think Dalembert deserves the pat on the back. I've become a fan of his for his international representation.

I see what he's getting at... do it before the game, in a press conference style but dont' let the fans pump him up. That's just as classy...gives him a chance to say something and doesn't impact the game potentially.

Didn't see the ceremony, but I'm with Sam on this one. No way do you do that before the game. Hold a press conference, invite him to City Hall, have the mayor present him with something. It's a nice gesture, but he's not a Raptor.

I gotta side with Sam tooo...shouldnt be done..

However..the conspiracy theroist in me, think that this is a ploy to get Dalembert to see the love in Toronto, and come get his rebounding shot blocking ass in a raps uni.

I can't think of any other franchise that would honour an opposing team's player just because he played on their national team. God, why are Canadians so desperate all of the time? lol

Well, quite frankly we do get shafted quite a bit when it comes to basketball by some of our own nationals. I'm starting to agree with Mitchell though.

The recognition was a nice gesture, but yeah, maybe not a good idea to honour the visiting team's players.

I agree with Sam. If Basketball Canada wanted to honour Sammy D, they should have done it with a presser before the game or had a luncheon featurting him yesterday - not something just before the game. When Nash led Canada to the Olympics and a respectable showing pretty much single-handedly, I don't remember Basketball Canada doing anything for him.

They did...we had a little thing before a game, to honor his work with basketball Canada....but please...Nash almost single handly won a medal..Sam...did what exactly, played 5 games?

I'm with Acie...Damn Canucks and their insecurity
