Default Sam Smith Grade Raptors Draft - A

Hey guys... new to the forums -- so if this was posted... sorry

"Toronto Raptors. They gave up their first-round pick and guard T.J. Ford for a chance with Jermaine O'Neal, an All-Star as recently as 2007. Maybe he can get it back. If he does, the Raptors should improve in the East with unselfish Jose Calderon now taking over at point. Nathan Jawai later is the latest baby Shaq. So we'll see, though we know there is only one."

I don't get you - weren't you complaining until now that we HAVE to make a move this summer? Now we're making the move and you complain why we're doing it? What were you hoping this summer? Do you think magette or wallace is a better sign? Wallace is a mild upgrade over moon, magette is a joke. Of all the potential moves, this one is the best by far in most people's opinions. Or you were hoping that Hibbert will make the difference?

If this is so bad, please, share your thought on what SHOULD have been done ...

I agree...best move available BC pulled the trigger on. He gave up injury riddled, chemistry cancering backup PG, average C, marginal C prospect, and filler, for an Allstar when healthy, and a solid big prospect who should be developed by the time JO's contract is done.

What this does is shore up our porous D, gives us that big body down low that this team has been missing since conception, and elevates pressure from Bosh. Not to mention opens up lanes for our slashers (I think moon can average 10+ PPG) and open looks for our shooters.

No other trade could have made this impact, we have the best all around frontcourt in the East, and possibly in the NBA...a very solid PG, a SG who knows how to operate, 3 point specialist, and a potentially athletic slasher, not to mention Bargs. The dynamic of the team drastically changes, only worry i have is depth, key injuries to O'Neil or Bosh for long spells will make or brake the season, but if healthy we have a shot at 3 in the east no doubt. Which i think we all agree seemed highly far fetched before this move.

yeah i was desperate for a WING, A WING
and yes i would take Wallace over J.O especially when you already have 2 bigs that your franchise depends on

not sure that wing was our most pressing need. Our biggest failings last year were rebounding and interior defense. Having a guy like Magette actually makes us worse in both areas, as he's a poor defender and rebounds far less than Jamario. Sure, if we could get a quality wing like Smith or Deng, that would be an intersting debate. But magette, wallace or diaw are marginal improvements over moon (magette I would argue is a step back).

I think O'Neal over Bargnani is a FAR bigger upgrade than Wallace over Moon. Not to mention that a franchise center will almost always have a bigger impact vs a franchise wing (not that wallace or magette are even close to being franchise wings ... ).

God, let's get a WING!!!!!111

I'm sick of this. O.k. has anyone played basketball here? First thing, is you play basketball from the inside out. I understand we have Andrea, but Andrea is on the wing i.e. no on the outside. Where does Bosh operate? Usually in the high post not in the low post where a Centre operates. Did anyone notice when our offence runned most efficiently? It was when Rasho on the blocks was scoring and forcing defences to guard the interior aginst HIM and BOSH. Now we have upgraded the centre position with a guy who LOVES to play with his back to the basket. Teams will have to guard the inside position, if not, we will win games easily.

Now, defences will play and guard us and possibly double on the lower blocks; guess what that leaves one of our guards open. WE have the best 3 pt. shooter in the league in Kapono. Look at when he was most effective last? With Shaq, who oddly enough demanded attention on the low blocks, much like O'Neal receives now and has.

Getting a guy on the wing wasn't a priority because we believe in the development of Jamario Moon. If Moon improves his shooting so that it isn't a liability and continues to attack and stays aggressive who's to say he isn't a 10 and 7 guy? That's good enough. Too many times we're enamoured with the big name Wing man. Quick, who plays wing for San Antonio? BRUCE BOWEN!!!!! Wow, the Spurs suck. They never won with two dominant post men right?

So now we have three highly sought after positions covered. We have a PF in Bosh; a PG in Calderon. Arguably they're in the top 10-12 and now O'Neal who's probably top 5 in the league at Centre. We have three positions that teams NEED to fill in first and we're set at that. And now we can ease Bargs into a role instead of rushing him. How many said we need to ease his developement? Now that we can actually do that, we're saying what's wrong with the team? Are we crazy? Bargs now practices on a daily basis not simply against Rasho, but against J.O. and Bosh. Do we not think that'll improve him in the slightest? He's practicing against better competition? Plus, it's not being handed to him this time. He knows someone here is to take his job. We said too many times it looked like he didn't care and now he is gonna be forced to care.

This is a brilliant move, because by 2010, you have a chance to see what you have or well not have and you have the chance to completely rebuild with a ton of cap space.

Dennis Rodman was a dirty player but everyone loved him. Bill Lambeer was too. Some would say Charles Oakley and Karl Malone were dirty players. I could go on and on. But that's another story.

Every team needs an asshole. Problem is we love our stars more.

So were you agreeing with me or being sarcastic. Sorry but I have to ask.

I like dirty players as long as they're on my team.

Dirtiest player I've ever seen play was John Stockton.

I know it kinda sounded weird but I was agreeing with you.

My bad. No one said cussing was not allowed.
It's not my fault he was trying to sex up Chris Paul during a game..

Cussing is fine....using words that are used to propagate hate, is not.

Had you said, "he was trying to sex up Chris Paul" no problem.

The other word is inappropriate....I don't mean to lecture you, but you should just not use it, unless you are some kind of comedian that manages to massage it into a routine...

..which you are not.
