Default Sam Mitchell and the 09/10 roster

For the interest of speculating, how do you think Mitchell would have done with this current roster? Would he have been able to motivate Turk? Would Bargnani be worse of as a player? What would Derozan's development look like at this point?

Apologies if this topic has been discussed already.

Sam Mitchell would have at least made some decisions when need be. I can imagine Derozan moving to the bench much sooner. And he might have had Hedo starting the season coming off the bench after taking camp off. If Hedo gets more expected of him from the start, then maybe by this point he would be integrated into the team fully.

Triano didn't face an easy situation by any means, so who knows, maybe Red Auerbach fails in the same circumstances. But It would be interesting to see what might have happened had there not been so much drifting throughout the season.

With Sam Mitchell as the coach, Hedo would be getting 16-6-6 on a regular basis and that would get us a 50 win season.

LOL yeah right. Every game that was tight we would have lost. Those games where Bargnani came up with a key block on one end and we came up with a score on the other - probably half of those wouldn't have happened.

Mitchell was pretty good for player motivation but his rotations were crappy and his playcalling was pretty much nonexistant.

I just wonder if Bargnani would be playing as well as he is with Mitchell. One of he criticism of Sam was his handling AB's development. Maybe in the long run AB would have been a better player since his starting berth wouldn't be guaranteed under Mitchell and therefore AB would have to step up his defensive game.

I think with Sam Mitchell Turkoglu would be doing better and as a whole we'd likely have 42+ wins at this point.

Where the rotations crappy because of poor player personnel? Or was
Sam just clueless? It's really hard to say. I remember one game vs the Celtics (during Sam's last year as coach) where he had Kapono on Paul Pierce. A terrible decision but in looking back at that game it seemed like the coach had to rest key guys a JK was unfortunately the best option vs Pierce.

if we had sam mitchell...fuck you bryan! every game i watch with that amateur head coach of ours it makes me more and more upset about his firing. it's sad, basically his whole tenure as our head coach he was the only raptor i actually liked.

Ah, Sam Mitchell wasn't that great. Better than Jay? Sure. The best available head coach out there? Heck no.

He wouldn't let salary dictate if you were going to be on the starting lineup, and I honestly think derozan would be developing much faster

Maybe, but Bargs would still be a stiff. Whoever said sending Bargs to the bench would modivated is totally wrong. Jay has allowed Bargs to play freely, and when he makes a mistake, hes not looking over his shoulder like he did when Smitch was head coach.

everything that Bargs does right is because of mitchell. if it wasn't for his harsh treatment, he'd still be sitting at the three point line not playing defence. it came together under jay, but it wasn't done under his wing.

I like Sam, but he clearly is not great when it comes to strategy.

The team would be in the same place, but with more tension and frustration all around.

Triano has clearly been struggling, but guys he's going no where. BC will give him another opportunity to continue to learn his trade.

If more tension and frustration means less than 19 turnovers a game then sign me up for more tension and frustration.

This team would be ready for a playoff matchup against a team we could beat, rather than going head first into a 4-1 stomping against the Cavs.

Although...with BC as GM, Mitchell would have his hands tied with regards to giving playing time to high-paid players who can't defend....

A better question would be, Mitchell sans BC and the 09/10 roster.

LOL... it's not really that green... lol....

Mitchell would be a perfect number one assistant to Jay... what's worse than Jay not having some fire is that none of his assistants do either.... Iavaroni, English, Williams, other guy... none of them ever get upset... Smitch as a head coach would still be brutal, but as a number 2 he would be golden because he wouldn't be relied on for drawing up plays or instructing on any systems.... well ideally...
