Raptors Salmons taking a leadership role

Quote:
Following the Raptors’ comeback win over the Mavericks on Wednesday, Casey singled out John Salmons as an important reason for the victory. Salmons scored just three points in 22 minutes, but also delivered a speech to the team after the Raptors finished the first quarter trailing by 19 points one game after trailing by 15 after the first frame in Charlotte.

“He just told us, ‘We’ve got to start going out there and throwing the first punch. We’ve got to stop letting people hit us first,”’ DeRozan said. “We really took into consideration what he said.“After he said that, we played all out.”Salmons has been playing with a sore back over the past few games, earning praise from Casey.

Good positive attitude by Salmons. Just wished he had the same attitude back in the day when we were trying to sign him and he said those negative things about Toronto. Either way it's water under the bridge and he has played well since arriving.

It's unfortunate he likely won't be back next season. I like him

Can't we buy him out and then sign him to another more reasonable contract?

Not saying we should though, he's too old and probably doesn't want to be in Toronto.

I actually think he's enjoying it here. Seems like it. Why not, he's getting minutes, playing great and playing a large role in crunch time.

I worded it poorly, I meant he probably wants to play somewhere where he could go for a ring.

I've said it all along, salmons is the key to this team. I really like him and I think we should keep him unless we really need those extra salary savings.

He played very well, once again, tonight. If he is gone next season, they better find someone like him to come off the bench and help at both ends of the floor, or the hole will be felt immediately.

remember those predictions that he will be booed because he snubbed us? It goes to show and I'd bet a large amount that if Carter returned to us and played really well and the team did well, he would have been hailed as a hero. Think cavs fans would mind if lebron makes a comeback?

winning is the best cure for the biggest grudges ...

I don't think people held much of a grudge against Salmons to begin with. So, he reneged on a verbal deal, got cold feet, whatever - big deal. Nothing compared to what T-Mac, VC or Bosh cost this organization with their "decisions".

I agree, people were pissed at the time but moved on pretty quickly.

obviously, but I think the conclusion still stands. Remember how many were loving Bargnani at the end of that 13 stretch? Or how many were asking for lowry to be shipped last season?

Society today is all about immediate gratification. And people often change their opinions on a dime, it takes very little. How many times did people flip on Calderon. We loved him, then wanted him gone because he was too injury prone and were happy when he was "sent" to Charlotte. Then when we traded him last season people were sad to see him go. We're all guilty of it to varying degrees but it seems to always get worse.

Lowry prior to his bad game vs Dallas was talked about in the MVP discussion along with ASG discussion. After that game almost nobody had him on their list as a reserve. After tonight, let's see if Lowry pops up on more lists. DD has a 40pt game and now he's 9th in MVP candidates. lol

But that's the thing - Lowry didn't have a bad game against Dallas! He had a bad shooting game, and yet was still absolutely instrumental in that win - a huge difference.

i completely agree. just saying that the guys on tnt only look at the stats and i doubt they watch our games or see his d and the charge he took etc....

Kenny Smith said his 16ppg/7.4apg isn't good enough........i guess they don't watch his d, the fact that he leads the league in charges taken or the fact that he's averaging 18ppg/8apg/5rpg the last 6 weeks or his high to/ast ratio.

Kenny ain't voting, is he?

Coaches know, trust me. They might not get a chance, seeing as how Irving and Wall are already there (or pretty much, in Wall's case), but they certainly know.

As far as I am concerned, Lowry deserves to be there moreso than DeRozan.
