Rumour Mill : Raps trading for 8th pick

I have close ties with someone well connected in the Raptors organization and word on the grapevine has it that the Raptors are very, very close to acquiring the 8th pick from the Detroit Pistons. He has no idea whom or what the raps are giving up but from the sounds of it, this is almost a done deal.

Any ideas on what the raps might be giving up for this pick?? :reporter:

You better not be getting my hopes up for no reason :dancing:

Probably means they would be taking on Hamilton's contract and the 8th pick in exchange for the TPE.

Indeed. I think he will be a beast. With a name like that how can you not?!? :5fj8zp:

If that would be the deal, you gotta think Barbosa is gone.

Rip would be a solid player off the bench.

I would love to have Rip here to mentor DeMar, although I would assume that we would buy him out so he could join a contender.

They definitely wouldn't buy out the 2 years 25 million he has remaining.

But he couldn't definitely be traded to a team like Dallas or another contender who wouldn't mind having him for a year and a half at that price...

DraftExpress NBA Draft Prospect Profile: Bismack Biyombo, Stats, Comparisons, and Outlook

lots of bricks.

The rough list I've received from said source has the Raps dream card as
pick#5
a>Brandon Knight
b>Kemba Walker

pick#8
a>Valanciunas (they see him as Paul Gasol 2.0) buyout might be a problem
b>Jan Vesely
c>Kawhi Leonard
d>Tristan Thompson (hometown boy)

They are NOT sold on Enes Kanter and word has it he is really 22 not 20 years old.

dfunkie1 06-16-2011 05:02 PM

i've always liked rip, but i don't know how he'll react to being a bench player on a losing team. do we have enough TPE left to take his contract? if not, i could see a package of amir and calderon working. i'd say walker/knight with either jan, biyombo, leonard or even tristan would be pretty exciting.

Bankiz 06-16-2011 05:03 PM

if this is rip + 8th for tpe : that can't be : this doesn't match !

i think one of our big contract could go with it.

but rip +8th can be a really good deal if we don't give up DD, amir, davis or bayless.

'trane 06-16-2011 05:06 PM

rip and #8 for tpe and barbosa works. starting to get a bit of wood about that possibiity... unfortunately there's pretty much no chance of something that good happening to us...

LX 06-16-2011 05:09 PM

Amir would have to seem likely to go on this end, I guess, since Detroit has a good idea of what they would be getting.

I would just love to see us get in on some action on draft night for once.

for the 5th pick, i think that seems right good.
for the 8th, i don't think bc would take another risk at a barg 2.0. LOL.
vesely, i don't know about him,
but betwen leonard and TT, as a franchise i would take a the hometown boy over anyother aspect.

but i mistrust source anonymous ! LOL !

If we get Rip we could have:

Knight or Walker/ Bayless
Rip/LB
DD/JJ/LK
Amir/Ed/Bargs
Bismack or Bargs/ FA centre?

EDIT: Could Enes get in trouble for lying about his age? How much trouble?

jeffb 06-16-2011 05:15 PM

If we can come out of the draft with Hamilton + Leonard + Walker or knight I would be very happy.

@Jackson

re: TPE

It depends on whether Colangelo used part of the Bosh TPE on Bayless, or whether he used a small TPE from another transaction (maybe he had one from the phoenix trade?)

The Bosh TPE was worth $14, 500 or $14, 600. But Bayless' required $2.2 million.

Rip's salary next year is 12, 600. If the Raps used part of the Bosh TPE on Bayless, and I think I read that B.C did that, then the TPE is NOT big enough to absorb Rip's salary. It falls just short.

@'trane

You cannot combine a TPE and a player's salary to trade for a single player. Yes, it seems like teams combine TPEs and players, but it's because they complete trades in stages, although the trades get reported at the same time. They are filed with the league in a different manner.

So, Barbosa + TPE does not work for Rip. The Raps could absorb salary and save Detroit money by doing something similar, though.

For example, the Raps could trade Calderon for Rip. Then use the TPE to absorb another ugly contract.

Rip + filler for Calderon + TPE + 8th pick = trade that works, filed in stages
