Default Rotations

Why doesn't Jonas get to play in the fourth quarter? Last night he was playing very well. He was aggressive on both sides of the court, had a double double, and wasn't in foul trouble. He was impacting the game in all aspects and was coming up with hustle plays that we haven't been used to seeing from Raptors in seasons past.

Shouldn't we want our young talent to learn to play with the game on the line? It's not like we're winning any championships this year.

The line up of Jose, Lowry, DeMar, Bargnani, and Big V played one of the best stretches of basketball that I've seen from the raps in a long time in the third quarter of last night's game.

I was so frustrated watching the 4th quarter.

Casey isn't going to be fired this season unless we lose like 12 more in a row. With Lowry back we will get a few more wins here and there so this rotation shit probably ain't changing all season.

One main thing will happen, Calderon will get a lot less minutes.

And he will be coming off the bench so hopefully the 2nd unit is more stable.

He wa getting 20mpg the first 4 games, including one game when he only played 14min. He's going to play less than he is now that's for sure and that's a good thing.

I agree with the OP on both fronts.

I really loved watching the lineup of: Lowry, Calderon, Derozan, Bargnani and Val

They were playing good defence and sharing the ball on offence.

Really hope Casey realized it, and will put this unit together more often.

Get used to the 2 PG lineup. Casey seems to love it even though it costs us game after game. I've come to expect the worst from the Raptors.

I really hate the 2 PG lineup. I hated when Triano tried it with Jack and Calderon or Bayless or whoever and I hate it now. It can work when one of them isn't named Jose and we aren't defensively fucked from two positions.

I'm really hoping that Casey is pushing DD to SF position.
If we can't get decent SF from FA market, then let DD be on it.

Lowry-Ross-DD-Barg-JV as a starting lineup, backed up by Jose-Kleiza-McGwire-ED-Amir

I specifically observed the 2 PG line up vs the Sixers, the Raps were up comfortably when they had 1 PG. Then they put in the 2 PG lineup and the lead just went down and it was a teeter totter game from their in out.

Keep it 9 man!

One positive from tonights game is Casey held an almost tight 9-10 man rotation. If you take Kleiza out for his 11 or so minutes of bad play, theres a 9 man rotation that worked decently well.

Yep. Things are slowly taking shape. But it does feel like there needs to be a trade to really make it work. What I saw from Charlotte is what I suspect Casey would like to see here. But they have more length and athleticism from one guy to the next, and less of a mish mash with roles.

what i've noticed from this game is that although demar has improved his overall game significantly the 1 thing that is still the same about his game is that it is still inconsistent
its almost even worse now because with his improved game you're relying on him for even more than before in even more parts of the game
but because 1 game he can be a superstar and 1 game he can appear to be the worst player on the court you don't know what to get from game to game
you can complain about Bargs all you want, but he's consistently the same for the most part, he can't rebound so the coach knows he has to game plan at the fact that his bigs cannot rebound, he knows the guy shoots a lot and that he will probably miss a lot but when you know that is coming you get used to it
with demar its can be anything and as probably the 2nd option on the team that's pretty risky, you can blame the refs for not calling fouls on demar, but thats part of the inconsistent package that comes with demar

For DD I feel that though he still has some inconsistency, he tries to bring it every night unlike last year. You can definitely see the diff. Last year he settled for the mid range jumper and 3s, drove occasionally but shied off when there was contact and went back to shooting. However this year, you consistently see him drive to the bucket even with all the contact going down low, he doesnt shy away and refs should take that into consideration. He might not score everytime he drives, but he's doing it more consistently now compared to settling for a mid range.

I think the 1 time we utilized, Bargnani well was during his rookie season and it shows with what he achieved that season. I personally only think that Bargnani should be getting 20mins a game and be our 6th man. Our starting bigs can be JV at C and Ed at PF with Amir and Bargnani coming off the bench respectively. Ideal lineup would be:

Lowry/Calderon
Derozan/Ross
Kleiza/McGuire
Davis/Bargnani
Valanciunas /Amir

Your starting front court arent big offensive threats, but you can guarantee that they will create space for Lowry and DD who like to drive as they dont mind the physicality down low, while Kleiza stays around the perimeter. Davis and JV are great rebounders and you can count on them, if scoring isnt going well put in Bargnani

My friend brought up that the Sixers used Thad Young as the C and Dorrell Wright as the PF in the fourth quarter last night, therefore forcing Raps to match their small lineup. Let's be honest, Bargnani isn't getting benched for Valanciunas in a small lineup.

I didn't watch the game, but that is definitely a valid point.

i agree with this, either bring in ross or klieza in the starting unit, klieza is a knock down 3 point shooter this year, just having him out there to take 3's is good enough for me

i have know idea why mcguire plays over klieza, linas is better at everything including defending, i don't know how mnay times mcguire takes a bad foul during games

A good coach doesnt just automatically adjust to the other teams lineup. If a player is having a huge game, it shouldnt matter what lineup the other team is putting out there. By putting JV in, he'd be forcing Collins to adjust to us now since JV was killing their bigs, imagine what hed do on the boards vs Young and Wright. Add in the fact that we were in the penalty and its a no brainer.

It was pretty simple, put JV on Young and hedge hard on Jrue, forcing Young to shoot outside shots. Instead we trailed all of the screens and Jrue penetrated to an open lane since Bargnani is horrible at rotating, which caused open layups for Jrue, or wide open corner 3's everytime down. Thaddeus Young isnt going to beat you with midrange shots. Add on the fact again that we were in the penalty and Jonas is a very good free throw shooter, its just a horrible non substitution. JV probably would have caused 3-4 loose ball fouls or drop off passes for fouls getting him to the line a ton in the 4th.
