Rosen: Will injured stars be able to shine again?

Ugh ... JO playing soft is something we definitely won't benefit from. I hope JO doesn't change too much what made him successful. :(

Perhaps that's why he no longer wants to bang with the other bigs in the low post. If he's determined to play soft, then he'll stay healthy but will forfeit a huge part of his value.

Whichever way O'Neal decides to play, the odds of his staying healthy and becoming a major factor in Toronto's season are 3:1.

Bullshit
Slow news so they just made up some random bullshit and put it up

I haven't watched many (or any) Pacers games lately but I have heard people say that he's falling more and more in love with the jumpshot but that's probably because he was playing on one leg. Hopefully it's not a trend and that now that he's supposedly healthy maybe he'll be willing to bang a little bit. As long as he stays on the court through the playoffs I'm happy. He'll definitely be an improvement over Rasho and I'm sure come playoff time he'd be willing to do the dirty work.

jeffb 09-12-2008 05:54 PM

I've heard broadcasters say he was soft and disapears in the 4th quarter quite a few times anyway. But i said this the other day,JO is playing for his next contract (Maybe his last) starting this season. And often times as a large contract starts winding down they start playing like they deserve their large paycheck.JO will have a good season IMO.

canada_rocks2369 09-12-2008 06:38 PM

I don't think he's playing for a contract this season. He could get extended next summer but I very highly doubt it because he's so valuable as a $20mil expiring contract and has such health concerns. Next season he'll be playing for a contract. This year is more to show if he can stay healthy and still contribute.

canada_rocks2369 09-12-2008 06:50 PM

And even if he disappears in the 4th quarter its not that big of an issue because we have lots of offensive weapons. If healthy, JO will always be considered a threat by opposing defenses. Even if he's struggling he's not a liability on offense and can help provide open looks for teammates. Let CB4 score in crunch time if JO can't get it done, he can still control a game on the defensive end. As long as he's blocking shots and drawing charges, we'll be fine.

moremilk 09-12-2008 07:28 PM

This is the common complaint with all/most superstars bigs, the same has been said about CB4, Garnett etc. The reality is that at the end of games, opposing teams will pack the middle when playing against a player like that, making it very difficult to score. That's why we will need at some point a star wing, exactly for those moments.

Claudius 09-12-2008 07:32 PM

Hell, offensively I don't care what he does. He can disappear all he wants on the offensive front. It's all about his focus on the defensive end. If he disappears on the defensive end during the end of games then I'll be concerned. However, because we really haven't had a problem scoring, I'm not concerned if he "disappears".

LX 09-12-2008 07:42 PM

When he was playing at around 100 percent healthy, he could impact any game in crunch time. The beautiful thing about this guy is that he knows it's not just about filling the net. Now whether that knowledge can pay-off is what we'll have to see, along with how much he is able to click with the other four guys on the court.

He's here for Offense AND Defense. I care.
Don't take him like some offensively challenged shitbox. He's a good scorer and he will score.

dfunkie1 09-12-2008 08:13 PM

JO is here for defense first, offense second. he's supposed to anchor down the post on defense, grab some rebounds, and challenge some shots. on offense we're just hoping he fits and stays near the basket.

i still look at this team w/o a second option because thats how little i expect from JO offensively. yes, he has the ability to score 20 point a game there's no denying that. i just want his energy spent on the other side of the floor.

Oh yes he is.Another injured season and that would be five straight. He needs to string 2 relatively uninjured seasons together to ease GM's doubts about his issues.

Gurk 09-12-2008 08:23 PM

Yea he can't have one injured one and the other not ijured one to get is contract

Superjudge 09-12-2008 11:11 PM

I said that this season is about staying healthy for him, just that its not a contract year (cuz theres no way he gets extended next summer) so he doesnt necessarily have to try and dominate, especially with so much firepower on the team. I definitely agree that hes gotta prove that he can stay relatively healthy to get a decent contract in 2 years, but I was talking more about from a performance aspect this season his contract wont really affect his play. By all rights he should be really motivated this season anyway regardless of his contract situation so its not really even worth discussing.

m5racer 09-13-2008 02:21 PM

he got that team to the confrence finals so better then anything we have ever seen here in toronto.

Well its all opinion. Its not random, its something that is possible and with the season approaching its only natural that we talk about the impact Jermaine may or may not make.

I don't agree with him either but I understand what he's saying. At the same time though Charlie Rosen is always hard on the Raptors so there is no surprise here.

Unbeatable as in they had the best record in the league the season before the brawl.

The brawl was THE MAJOR turning point in Indiana's fortunes.

Superjudge 09-14-2008 09:00 AM

Heh, did O'Neal ever tag that chump who came running at him. KAPOW!
