Default Rosen on Turkoglu to the Raptors

Charley Rosen analyzes the big deals so far (I don't think this was previously posted but my apologies if it was):

Quote:
Hedo Turkoglu to the Raptors

PROS: A deadly 3-point shooter with a quick release, Turkoglu is equally as dangerous a scorer when allowed to dribble left and pull. Clutch situations bring out the best in him. He can also execute timely passes (much better doing so when going to his right than to his left, however), pull down his fair share of rebounds and play excellent screen-and-roll basketball.

CONS: He's a step slow on defense and can be controlled by smaller, quick-footed defenders who can force him to go right.

PROGNOSIS: He's most effective when playing with a high-scoring pivot man — something that the Raptors still lack. Also, he weakens an already weak team defense. Despite his overly generous contract, Turkoglu will not be a game-changer. Here's hoping the joys of the increased company of his landsmen and the availability of Turkish culinary delights in cosmopolitan Toronto will offset the impossibility of Turkoglu's ever returning to the NBA Finals in his new digs.
I'm thinking he's not big on the signing.

I hope Bargnani and Turkoglu shut his pie-hole.

Well, we always have to prepare for the possibility of failure. Remember the JO experiment?

If you read the whole thing you'll see he really wasn't too positive about any of the moves.

He does correctly point out some concerns heading into the season (DEFENCE!). I'd like to see how a few games play out before I judge how well this team can compete.

We cannot ever forget about the JO experiment...that was a disaster. However, I remain optimistic in the moves BC has made.

There really is no reason for bringing up JO in the context of the most significant signing in this franchises' history.

With JO we had a guy who hadn't played more than twenty games in the previous two seasons, rehabbing, trying to regain a shred of his former self.

Hedo a guy coming off a trip to the finals, and was the most important player on his team for the entire playoff push.

so... tj, rasho, hibbert and a pick finally become turkoglu, wright, george and cap flexibility... if we're going to bring jo up, let's put it in context. one wasted year, no doubt, but look how far we've come.

don't forget derozan, which is a direct result of us sucking. And the player we'll get through MLE, and also banks dragging us down.

Exactly.

BC seems to being doing everything right this summer. He got rid of Kapono for Reggie Evans, drafted DeRozan, signed Turkoglu and just traded Humphries, sign and traded Marion for what we needed.

we pretty much traded 2 firsts for george and wright. Hibbert was indy's pick

2009 capspace for turkoglu could have been created alot easier had it been colangelo plan all along

well they traded charlie for ford which lead to trading for another contract(oneal) and then another(marion) . charlie would have left them with the capspace to begin with right about now but you could argue that ford was the big reason we made the playoffs in a pretty meaningless run which im sure you will.

but there would have been many , many possibilities to have created this space without the hassel. mistakes were made

God i hate when people go back three years and over analyze every move when looking at the current state of a team. Pointless. Especially when you look at every move one by one and look at why the moves were made and consider that when BC came in we were a 27 win team.

Summertime = silly season

Charlie V was still on his rookie contract. He would've cleared just under 4 million dollars.

Whoopee!

Actually there is. We gave up on Marion, a player that fit well into the lineup for a player that may or may not fit well into the lineup.
