What do you think?
I saw a few youtube-vids and interviews and I've read that he could be something special. My first impression is pretty good and I generally believe in giving young players a chance. I also think playing with the starting unit could be better than with the 2nd unit and because the bench is not strong I think the Raptors would be better off looking for a few good bench players than for a starting SG. So I'm voting yes. |

there's no way Derozan should be starting.
He's only had one year of college experience. He's of the youngest age possible to be in the NBA and he's about to play in the best league in the world. Do you really think throwing him to the wolves like that is the best way to start his NBA career? It's demanding too much of him at this point. |

This poll is a little pre-mature...Shouldn't we wait to see who's on the team before we choose the starting line-up?

I feel for option 3 too, but I would go for a good back up who can play around 24 minutes also. If he proves to be a player and develops he can have picked up useful experience by the time a possible playoff run comes around and be an integral part of the team. I don't think it's too much pressure or anything. He doesn't strike me as the person that copes with that badly. Heard him say that he likes pressure, actually. Some other rookies are exposed too much more pressure and in the past there were among them those that even had no college experience at all. Makes no difference if they're rebuiliding or not (to the player) if you are considered the new franchise player that will bring home the glory. Derrick Rose may have started on a rebuilding team but he led them into the playoffs and handled the pressure fine. For DeRozan it should be much easier being surrounded by 4 experienced players and at least 2 good facilitators. Yeah I get your point, but I opened it because I read some people post depth charts and he's not even on it, so they're speculating about & suggesting trades or acquiring some players for SG, so I figured I'd like to discuss the possibility. I think DD should come off the bench to give us a spark. As he gets better and better during the season, he should get more and more minutes. But we don't need him to score with Jose, Hedo, Bosh, and Bargs on the floor. They can take care of the scoring just fine.

He doesn't have to do anything on offence other than fast break dunks. We have pick and rolls with any of our frontcourt guys + calderon.
If Derozan can actually play defence, why shouldn't he start? He can lean more towards being a Bruce Bowen (save all his energy for defence) in his first year than being a Vince Carter for us. |

The best case scenario would be that he plays well enough not to be a liability on defense |

Demar will be the best athlete on the team, and our lock starting 4some of Bargs-Bosh-Caldy-Turk lacks in that department so it seems like he fits in well. I like the idea too cause he'll be the 5th option on offense, that can't really hurt a rookies development. Triano will just ask him to hit open jumpers, make a few cuts to the basket a game, and defend. Better than leaving him on the bench to rot, or putting the ball in his hands with the 2nd unit and expecting him to create his own offense against weaker opponents.

How can you decide before you've seen at least one game against nba competition? Now we have hedu, I feel that if demar can defend his position and at least hit an open shot, there's no reason why he shouldn't start. With his body, he should have little problem rebounding well at the 2. But we won't know that for sure until he plays a few games.
