A few facts & numbers of former rookies that made it to the NBA All Defensive Team (either later or in their rookie year):

Tim Duncan 11.9 rpg 0.7 spg 2.5 bpg (2nd NBA All-Defensive Team)
career avg 11.7 rpg 0.8 spg 2.3 bpg

Kevin Garnett 1.1 spg 1.6 bpg
career avg (+10 mins) 1.4 spg 1.6 bpg

NO COLLEGE EXPERIENCE

Ron Artest 1.6 spg 0.5 bpg
career 2.1 spg 0.6 bpg

John Stockton (all-time leader in steals)
1.33 spg (18 mins), career 2.17 spg (32 mins)

Hakeem Olajuwon (all-time leader in blocks)
2.7 bpg, career 3.0 bpg

I know there's more to it than stats alone, and maybe defense doesn't translate as well as some other qualities in the NBA, I don't know, but skill, talent and hard work is the basis of all succes and experience is not sanctifying. Rookie mistakes will occur, at both ends of the floor, but so will effective play.

That's kind of the point. If you think it's no that means you want the Raptors to get a better SG and if it's yes then you don't.

Well now, I wonder, how many of you guys have had to tryout for a real team?

I know there's a few of you, so if you could help me out with this one I'd be happy.

Derozan comes in with an equal chance. If the kid can play, and produce, and he can make his place on the talent chart above the other SG's, he'll get his PT. If not, he won't.

There isn't a process, nothing is in stone. All players are different and are capable of different things. Judging from how BC just made Parker and Delphino expendable, my guess is that they saw something in the draft workouts, and in Derozans second half NCAA tapes that they liked.

The question is should DeRozan start. I can't formulate an opinion on that until I know if there's a better option. And if you're asking if I would like BC to get a better option...the answer to that is always yes to every position if it's possible... why would anyone answer differently? I'd like him to upgrade Jose, Andrea, Bosh and Hedo...sure...will it happen? Not likely

4/5 guys you listed are HOF/Future HOFs.

You must have REALLY high expectations for this kid.

The kid was the 9th pick in a supposedly weak draft. The guy is raw as all hell and will likely be a bit of a project. I'm just hoping he doesn't look completely lost when on the court at the beginning of the year and improves drastically enough to be have earned a starters role later on.

But I won't be holding my breath that he'll be able to do it.
