Raptors Rookie rankings

Valaciunas #8

Quote:
While most of the attention in Toronto has been on Rudy Gay, for my money (as a rookie acolyte) the Raptors' five-game winning streak is all due to Valanciunas, who has been a stud since entering the starting lineup four games ago. Valanciunas had seven points and eight rebounds Tuesday in Toronto's 96- 88 win in Washington and has averaged 8.0 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in the win streak. It's clear the 20-year-old Lithuanian has a bright future.
-- Feb. 20

Also a mention of Ross...

Quote:
The bigger coming-out party, though, was for Terrence Ross, who isn't quite the household name (until now) that Lillard has become. Ross has been off and on the Ladder a few times this season, shining in stretches for Toronto while seeing his playing time fluctuate. Ross beat out reigning champ Jeremy Evans and former champion Gerald Green to become the first rookie since Josh Smith in 2005 to win the NBA dunk contest.

Raptors fans are familiar with Ross' accomplishments, especially when it comes to dunks, but the rest of the world got to see the athleticism this rookie possesses.

"I feel blessed, but it's still overwhelming," Ross said. "I'm just trying to soak it all in."

So ross has gone from the rookie ladder for his contributions on the floor, to a novelty act as a dunker...awesome.

When you don't see the floor, it's hard to do more than that.

Hard to see the floor when you're getting burned on defence and shooting around 20%

Well, I hope Ross has simply hit the rookie wall. I mean, for the rest of the season, it absolutely makes sense for him to be the first wing off the bench behind Gay and DeRozan, but not if he continues to play as badly as he's been playing recently.

Vicious cycle.

He's only played 20 minutes once in the past 9 games.

Jv has been amazing since his return, which is very encouraging tbh. It shows a guy who learned so much just by watching , great sign. I was quite down on him before he got injured, but his recent play made me into a believer (again).

Ross will be a good shooter for sure, how good depends if he can develop a shooters mentality. His mechanics are flawless

Wow, a little harsh on a rookie who plays sporadic minutes, no?

JV really deserves to start playing down the stretch.

We give up a ton less offensive boards when he's in. Always challenging. Even though he makes mistakes, he doesn't make THAT many more than the rest of the players on our team.

JV better work on his post up game...learn a thing or two from Zach/Gasol/West/Howard and keep his defensive intensity like Noah/Chandler, etc! He can be our go-to guy in the post...with Amir/Gay lurking for offensive boards. Kick outs to DD or Lowry for a jumper/drive by...we can be an elite team!

Actually, we rebound better on both ends when he sits.
