Roko's ready to rumble with the Raptors

Pretty optimistic article on Roko if I say so myself. :D

While Ukicís first instinct is to pass, he will make opponents pay if they leave him open with his rapidly improving jump shot. Unfortunately for them, he is also fearless when it comes to penetrating if the opportunity should present itself.

On the other side of the ball, the 23-year-old boasts an imposing wingspan that enables him to block shots and create turnovers. He would offer the Raptors a strong shutdown defender to guard against some of the leagueís premier point guards and shooting guards.

This is not to say that Ukic doesnít have some work to do as he embarks upon an NBA career. He has yet to become acclimatised to the stronger, faster, tougher North American game, and his slender figure could certainly use some additional bulk before he comes over. But with the skill he possesses on the court, NBA stardom may well be within his considerable grasp.

So before anointing Derrick Rose, Michael Beasley, or any other NCAA hype machine as the 2008-09 Rookie of the Year-to-be, donít forget about the latest European import who could be primed to bring some more international flavour to the Toronto Raptors next season.

Sure seems optimistic from what i saw in the preseason game...but that was just one game.

Issue...playing time. If both Ford and Calderon are kept... he wont' get any. Interesting to see what happens here.

jeez, that writer makes him sound like Steve Nash or something.

I wouldn't get my hopes up that we're going to have a new allstar on our hands or anyhting, but it does get me excited to see what this kid can do. and by all accounts he is suited to play the 2 guard as well, so i'm sure Sam can find some PT for him if deserved.

Darrick is clearly gone as a player next year. There's a roster spot, at least. Plus possibly a Dixon/Joey trade in the future... I mean, I see no reason he can't replace one of those guys in the rotation, at least to give him a chance. If he ends up being good, then we deal with the 'problem' of having several good players at one or two positions, giving us depth and longevity. If he's no good, then he's no good, and he replaces Darrick or Dixon at the end of the bench. Either way, he's cheap, and probably worth a shot next year.

I actually think they should look at playing roko as a combo guard. as an adept passer capable of playmaking but also capable of slashing to the basket and creating his own shot off-the-dribble. I haven't seen nearly enough of him, but he could potentially be a nice two off the bench like a barbosa. Just a thought, but that's what struck me when i read the description above, and from what I saw in the preseason game in rome.

He should definitely come over. With him in the lineup, we could safely ditch (trade) Graham. Martin and Dixon and be left with the following 1-2-3 rotation:

PG: Calderon (Ford?, Ukic)
SG: Parker (Delfino, Ukic)
SF: Moon (Kapono, Delfino)

Considering that both Delfino and Ukic are good ball-handlers, that'd allow the team not to have to carry a 3rd point guard who is not capable of playing any other position.
