Roko Ukic

I'm a bit mystified by our perception of Roko Ukic. In the other thread, he has 11 of 37 votes for the biggest dissapointment, and if thriller really meant to vote for him and not for Sam, it's more likt 12 of 36, which is an even 33%. That leaves only 66% that could potentially see roko as a bona-fide backup this season, which technically could be a majority. However, I don't share that opinion, and there might be others ... So, what do you think of Roko's chances in the league next season?

moremilk 08-28-2008 01:04 PM

I meant to say "he will suck and he will drop behind solomon"

Kuzzy 08-28-2008 01:11 PM

anyone who doesnt vote for the 3rd choice
is a dreamer.

Gurk 08-28-2008 01:53 PM

I voted for the third choice. It sounds resonable for a rookie and I think that's what will happen

whizzy 08-28-2008 02:28 PM

Hi Guys,

hopefully he will do ok, and will getr some minutes at the beginning of the season. If he gets a chance i hope he will take it and will be a great pick up for us in form of a very solid PG for years to come ;)

If not we have Solomon, he could use the minutes and Roko can learn ...

Bye

Whizzy

my vote, if it were possible, would be that he will suck badly but still get 10-15 minutes of backup to Jose, as Solomon will suck worse and we have no one else...

Or a hater. ;)

Anyway, from what we've seen at the Olympics and read in various papers, the third choice does seem like a reasonable one.

Ball Don't Lie 08-28-2008 05:21 PM

I'm hoping he can adjust right away, but I see him falling into the 3rd pg role until later in the year where his production will be better and he'll be making more of the correct plays on both sides of the ball. I hope I'm wrong and he can come in and play well to start, but its hard to see. Hopefully if Roko does suck that Solomon guy can actually step in and play

Gurk 08-28-2008 06:15 PM

Hopefully that can happen and I think Solomon will be a good PG and I heard that he is a combo guard. So I was thinking if SG wasn't playing wel Solomon could play the SG position

Claudius 08-28-2008 08:57 PM

I don't see Solomon doing much of anything on this team. I see him a slight upgrade over Milt Palacio really (for those who remember who Milt is)

Ukic like any rookie PG will struggle early on. But he's turned into a smart player and has really matured. Really, he reminds me alot of Calderon his rookie season but has propensity to push the ball more and is a better defender. I think Calderon has better court vision of course and is a better shooter, but Ukic this season will be impressive on the fast break (where we lack, Calderon's propensity to halt the fast break is annoying) and he's a smart defender.

I could envision a future line up of Calderon/Ukic/Moon/Bosh/J.O very easily to close out games as Ukic and Moon on the wings would be able to use their length very wisely.

Solomon is a pure scorer but I don't see him working at all.

Gurk 08-28-2008 10:11 PM

Wow I'd like to see that lne-up

Kirby 08-28-2008 11:01 PM

This guy is going to take Calderon's starting spot and make the All NBA First team.

henrymakepeace 08-29-2008 09:19 AM

Ukic is not very skilled nor he is mature enough and has poor decision making. That's why he was downgraded from Tau Ceramica to Barcelona and then to Lottomatica Roma in a few years. People who know European basketball will know what this means. Tau Ceramica which is (arguably) one of the top three teams in Europe didn't keep him although they'd lost Calderon to the NBA.

He is OK for filling the third PG option for Raptors and IMO Solomon is clearly better than him. Especially in critical moments (though he can be silly at times) and playoffs he will be more useful than Ukic with his passion for winning. Ukic could be returning to Europe after this year.

wow. that's some pretty harsh criticism.

The few times i've seen Roko play, i actually found him to be a mature player who wouldn't do too much and just played within his talents. He wasn't incredible or anything, but he was sound and played composed.

But then again, you have probably seen more of him than we have... so i just hope you turn out to be wrong. ;)

now I'm even more confused - if the VAST MAJORITY (~90%) expect him to do a ok, how can roko be also voted for the biggest dissapointment? :)
