Rick Adelman gone from Houston - Toronto a fit?

I'd like to preface this by saying I'm not and never have been a member of the "fire Triano" club.

However, news came down the pipe today that Rick Adelman's contract isn't being renewed with Houston. I'm really surprised; he's done great things there especially given that the team has been decimated by injury.

This guy is a fantastic coach and does a lot with a little. We could seriously, seriously use somebody with his experience and knowledge behind the bench.

I think it deserves a serious look.

If BC goes, then I think Jay should too. If that is the case then Adleman would be a really good candidate for coach. He preaches defence, thats all I care about.

The fact he took the Lakers to a 7 game series with that roster in 2009 is reason enough to hire him

that'd be huge.

Admiral 04-18-2011 06:56 PM

i wouldn't mind him here at all

FoldedLaundry 04-18-2011 07:08 PM

I think he would be a great fit here with our young guys

I've liked Adelman for a long, long time.... I'm sure he'd come at a hefty price tag though.

MrClutch 04-18-2011 08:59 PM

lets bring him here

jeffb 04-18-2011 09:03 PM

This would be nice but it would take a lot for him to come here.

MLSE won't spend on a coach if they don't spend on a GM going forward....

+1 MLSE will not spare a penny for the Raptors, or any teams for that matter.

I think the coaching is paid for by the owners.

He discussed retirement with his wife last year, and since, according to the Rockets, they have "mutually agreed to part ways" I'm going to assume he's going to call it quits.

thats funny cause in nba 2k11 in my player mode. My player is a PG for the Raptors and we fired JT and Hired Rick adelman. Very ironic

BballWatcher 04-18-2011 11:09 PM

For gods sakes, no! He's left every situation he's ever been in as a loser, failure, underachiever. His teams always combust in the playoffs, and often in the worst way. And he is not a defensive guru!

"He's accomplished more than Triano ever has [and possibly ever will] many will contend." More than Triano ever has, that's true, but he's had some pretty awesome teams, too. He was at the helm of Portland (who had Scottie Pippen, Rasheed Wallace, Mighty Mouse, and a very stacked team) when they imploded vs. the Lakers; ditto the Kings when they also got beaten in most humiliating fasion by the Lakers.

No! Keep Triano. He's great for tanking.

Rick Adelman won't return as Houston Rockets' head coach - ESPN

Quote:

"I don't think I've lost the desire to coach; I think I still can do it," Adelman said.

But it sounds like he'd like a better team than this:

Quote:

"I had three experiences [before Houston]," he said. "At two, I had a lot of talent and at one, I didn't. I won at two places and didn't win at the other. I figured it out that talent is pretty important, especially if you have a unique blend of a big guy who's one of the best in the league and a perimeter player who's one of the best in the league."

If we take that route, you can say bye to DD and Davis

You got a talented young perimeter player in DD and and talented young big man in Davis, looks good for Adelman. Unless he's in win now mode.
