Richard Jefferson

Apparently, Richard Jefferson is available based on some rumors on ESPN site.
What would Raptors need to give away to take Jefferson? AP+first round pick?

raptor86 02-11-2009 11:35 AM

That sounds rather absurd, they just lost Redd for however long and now they want to get rid of RJ :\?

Acie 02-11-2009 11:36 AM

I'd be willing to gamble that Joey's play of late is an indication that he may be finding his place in the league. I also think he's a younger, cheaper version of Jefferson and I'd be loath to give away another first round pick, so I'd pass.

Richard Jefferson, Bucks
With Michael Redd out for the season, Andrew Bogut out for a couple of months and Luke Ridnour out for a month, the Bucks' chances of making the playoffs have dramatically decreased. With Charlie Villanueva and Ramon Sessions hitting free agency in the summer, the team must clear some space to sign them.

That need has led the Bucks to explore deals for Jefferson that would allow them to reduce payroll and add an asset in return. The Blazers have had a lot of interest in Jefferson in the past and have the right combo of assets, plus Raef LaFrentz's expiring contract, to make it happen.

Chance of trade: 50 percent

lol geez I didn't even hear about Bogut, that teams droppin like flies. That definetely makes more sense now though, RJ is a legit starting SF....so I'm down for the raps getting him.

We could play Joey&RJ at 2/3! AP is an expiring contract and a first round pick requires some time to be ready to contribute. RJ on the other hand, can contribute right away.

MangoKidHoops 02-11-2009 11:52 AM

Doesn't Jefferson make something like 11-12 mil a year? So AP + a pick wouldn't cut it.

AP + Kapono + a pick should do it!

INSIDER 02-11-2009 12:08 PM

i'm with acie.
lets give Joey some burn.... he may turn out to be actually good. look at how he's been playing lately.

AP - expire contract so they can re-sign their FA
First round pick - could be a nice prospect
Kapono - the best shooter in the league :party-smiley-004:

Is not like Milwaukee gave away better pieces for RJ.

Ugo Ferst 02-11-2009 12:24 PM

Geez, Joey IS good, believe it boys!!

LOL.. Kapono best shooter in the league.

The Bucks gave up Yi (who in my mind is a decent prospect) and a large expiring in Simmons.

Enough of giving away our first rounders. We need to build youth and depth. RJ's contract gets dirtier. It ends in 2010-11 with a 15 million pricetag.

exactly.

No first round draft picks should be leaving this organization under any situation (unless maybe..... MAYBE we get a 20-22 year old talent back).

The thing about a first round selection is that essentially it's free talent. AND it's IMO, the main way good teams are built.

CobraKing 02-11-2009 12:42 PM

I gotta agree with MangoKidHoops on this one. Let the season ride out for a bit, there's no point making a trade just for the sake of making one.

NaturallyStoned 02-11-2009 12:51 PM

Milwaukee aren't taking on kapono's contract (unless you take back Bell). From what i understand, they want to get rid of him to reduce payroll, so they're probably looking for expirings/ young talent in return.

And frankly, Jefferson just hasn't played very well this season.

Sick, Wicked and Nasty! 02-11-2009 12:55 PM

I agree not to give up a pick for RJ but for those suddenly wanting to give Joey a look as our starting SF... yeah he's been better but he's not the starting SF on a championship calibre team..he's a backup..so if we have any aspirations of really improving we need to seriously upgrade that position..not marginally.

moremilk 02-11-2009 01:25 PM

to get jefferson would be fantastic, but I think it's unrealistic. The bucks need expiring contracts this summer, because they want to resign charlie and sessions, who are both playing like maniacs lately. Since our only expiring contract is Parker, we're missing some 8 millions ...

Ugo Ferst 02-11-2009 01:28 PM

you think RJ is worth 11mil?? I really rather look elsewhere and prob get a better price, or a better player for the same price.

Dark Knight 02-11-2009 01:31 PM

We don't need him. End of story
