RGM Rumour: BC Looking At Hedo This Summer?

Take with a grain of salt guys & gals. RealGM rumour.

I take it with a grain of salt and so should you, but it's the slow season and every discussion point at least livens things up. Mods, if this isn't OK then let me know. I've been a good citizen for this long, no reason to screw it up now. On to the story....

So I'm out at a high-end steakhouse in the city very recently. After about 3 hours, I go on a tour of the place with my waiter. The waiter relates to me the following.

He mentions that BC often comes in, with coaches/scouts/whoever etc along, and takes over one of the private rooms (that happens to have a flatscreen). He and the coaches will eat steaks and watch basketball on the TV and talk about players etc. One day when BC was there, Orlando was in town and Turkoglu was eating dinner in the dining room. BC this time was sitting at the bar watching another screen, so he goes over to Turk's table and sits down. They chill for a while, there seems to be a lot of laughter etc., and BC gets up looking very pleased. He comes back to the bar and remarks "I think he might be playing for us next year."

So that's the story. It's second hand info but it's something. Turk does fit a few of the things the Raptors need (scoring and rebounding from the 3), he's European and likes the city (and we all know the raps like to go after the talented euro guys), he can terminate his contract in the offseason (when we have some cap room), and he's a guy who can score and still share the ball (about 5 APG each of the last 2 seasons). Bonus, it would weaken an eastern conference rival.

So there you go - it's a rumor. There's a story and you're not going to find a web link for it. If you want I'll start a blog and throw it up there and then set up a link, but that seems like a waste of time. Take from it what you will. I won't be holding my breath, but it seems like bringing in Hedo would be an upgrade IMO.

EDIT: TO talk briefly about Turk's defense, since rthis is a big issue for the raps. According to 82games, the Raptors allowed opposing SFs a PER of 17.2. Turkoglu allowed opposing SFs a PER of 13.2. The nprevious season he gave up a PER of 13.9. SO by the numbers, he's a very good defender at the 3. By contrast, Lebron gave up a PER of 13.6 to SFs this year.

Was this before or after the Marion trade. Marion is a better fit than Hedo for the Raptors. I don't think you can have both, unless you stick Marion at the shooting guard position, and both players sign the MLE.

i love these kind of rumours...
yes they are meaningless and could be 100% fabricated lies, but theres always a glimmer of hope (especially if its a good deal)... and in this case, i love it.
Hedo is a big boy who can play the SF... he can hit shots, pass, rebound and most importantly open up the floor for CB.
if we somehow could get Hedo on this team i'd be all smiles.

BC talking to Hedo, that must mean he's signing him

Unless he's getting the MLE, I don't want him anywhere near this team.

I'd rather Marion than Hedo because he plays better D. Hedo's gonna give you 15-16 and 5. That's pretty much it. You know you're gonna get 12-13 and 8-9 plus better team D with Marion. With Hedo, they're going back into a pedestrian, jump shooting team. I'd rather stay away from that avenue.

but he's also a guy who can hit a jumper when the game's on the line.
i have mad love for CB, but that isnt his forte.
Hedo on the other hand can nail that shot in clutch-crunch-time situations...
inside or out, you can count on Hedo coming thru when you need a basket at the end of the game.

he also gives you 5 rebs and 5 assists... wont take nights off, and will be healthy throughout the year.

sure his FG% could be better and he will be another jumpshooter, but i think if you put Hedo on this team - he easily puts up 20+ ppg and opens up the floor for our bigs.

He may not be the defensive stalwart we ened, but Hedo brings game.

The guy can hit some huge shots from almost anywhere on the court. Could defintely be a nice complement to our team at the SF. He can also play SG and can even run the point when he wants...would be a great fit if we can find a nice, defensive minded SG.

Hedo is a lot like Bargs
Raps already have interior jump shooters
Marion gives you better rebounding, which he helped with tremendously
remember how bad team rebounding was before he arrived

Sign & Trade Marion (if we can't keep him) for a SG and sign Hedo. Hmmmm, interesting.

Hedo is unbelieveably overrated. Hes not even a 2nd option. Not close.

You give him 8-10 mil a year youll regret it bigtime. Hes a really good role player, thats it.

I'd rather have Marion as well, but Hedo is big in the 4th quarter and we are desparate for late game clutchness... so as a Marion alternative he does bring some things to the table.

Completely agree. Also, I thought one of the priorities of BC was to address the perimeter defense. Hedo does not adress this need, and the guy is 30 years old. Also, we don't have a Dwight Howard to erase all our perimeter defence mistakes.

You know who else is clutch? Ben Gordon. And Gordon's younger by 4-5 years. But no one seems to want BG.

Mango I agree with you, if Marion is willing to come back then I don't want Hedo but if Marion expresses he doesn't want to come back we can try a sign and trade if not then go out right and sign Hedo. Although I like the sign and trade idea because it will allow us to use our MLE on another player afterwards
