Ressurecting The Franchise

Calderon is the Raptors biggest problem. Another thing that I have noticed about the Raptors is that they tend to never do things that get the crowd off their feet and motivate the players. Yes, B.C. brought in Pops which makes a huge difference and makes watching Raptors games worth-while. Yeah it was all fine when we had T.J. because his crosses did give us something to cheer about, but Calderon, nothing but making weird hand signs and stopping fast breaks to keep his A/TO ratio down.

So, potential fix?

Somehow make this work: NBA Trade Machine - ESPN

Resign Graham, Parker will likely leave.

Resign Pops.

Do us all a favour and get rid of Kapono for a bad deal /pick something like that.

Sign Lamar Odom (Pretty sure he will be a free agent, correct me.)

Draft either James Harden ( if we get a lucky pick ), or Demar Derozan ( if we don't get lucky ).

Look of lineup.

Starters:

Mario Chalmers
James Harden/Demar Derozan
Lamar Odom
Michael Beasley
Chris Bosh

Bench:
Pops Mensah Bonsu
Joey Graham
Daequon Cook
Roko Ukic

Kris Humphries
Marcus Banks

[s]Nathan Jawai
Patrick O' Bryant[/s]

Just my 2 cents, don't hate.

Arguements: Calderon and Bargnani for Beasley and Chalmers, are you crazy? No.. Calderon if anything, is over rated. He seldom drives to the lane to make use of his free throw making ability, he never takes chances, and looks as if he plays with the numbers too much. He passes up good looks if he feels uncomfortable to keep his FG% up. He only takes 3s if he's completely open, although his shooting is great. He seldom leads fast breaks because he seems afraid of lowering is Assist to TO ratio. SDtats don't matter, someone get that into his head. In Chalmers we get a point guard with a lot of potential and gives us that ability to steal the ball that we lack. Also rids us of Calderon's sloppy defense.

Bagnani for Beasley and Cook??

Yeah, Bargnani is developing into quite a scorer, but I still question his consistency, yeah he's scores 20 plus in how many games this season? He's had stints where he shows excellence but he's suffered after that and I think we should take advantage of this. Other teams are probably looking to cash in on him because of his potential and the way he's recently been playing. In Beasley we get a solid scorer who can CREATE his shot, something that the Raptors lack. He can use his left/right hand, he can step out, and his range will only improve with time. He has great potential. And in Daequon we get a more athletic Kapono who has the ability to finish inside on occasions and still spread our opponents defense. He also has more hustle.

Why would you draft Derozan? If we can't get Harden how about we bring VC back to TO? Oh wait, I ment Demar Derozan not VC. He gives us that explosiveness inside, as well as hustle and athleticism, he is fit to fill in that 2-guard spot. And who knows, maybe with a few years and a Dunk Contest trophy under his belt he will be as valuable to us as VC was without the drama.

What does Odom bring? Veteran Leadership as well as someone who Bosh can rely on when he is injured/having a bad game.

Can this group bring home the title? No.

Because this group is just too young.

What can it do? Get us into the playoffs, make Bosh stay. Bosh loves TO and I think he would stay if he sees a bright future.

This group is also more than capable of bringing home the championship in 2/3 years time if everything goes as planned.

After some great (C&C) comments. I thought I should revamp this thanks for pointing out all the errors.

1. So, we need to add more defense + interior toughness to the squad for some boards.

2. Odom is overrated correct, so lets solve this issue.

3. "Well gee, this seems as plausible as Jason Kapono not travelling when he puts the ball on the floor."

Solutions:

1. Sign Trevor Ariza + Jamario Moon.

Leave Bosh at the Power Forward spot,

"bargnani and calderon
for cook and beasley
calderon for beasley would make a little more sense
but throwing in Bargnani after the way hes been playing lately.. no way jose.
btw, welcome to the forum!"

Keep Bargnani.

Trade Calderon for Chalmers + Daequon Cook, or another deal.

Dont resign Graham, unless Jamario Moon doesnt accept our offer.

2. Hope that Pops can continue to grow and become more unselfish + wise and bring the interio toughness.

So: New Lineup:

Mario Chalmers
James Harden/Demar Derozan
Trevor Ariza
Chris Bosh
Andrea Bargnani

Bench:
Pops Mensah Bonsu
Jamario Moon/Joey Graham
Daequon Cook
Roko Ukic

Kris Humphries
Marcus Banks

Nathan Jawai
Patrick O' Bryant

3. Already Solved.

As for the problem that we dont have enough 3pt shooters, we have Daequon (and Harden from time to time if we get him) and Andrea Bargnani.

Why throw away Kapono to get another player like him?? Because, this other player like him has a better ability to finish near the rim and brings hustle which can turn around games! Kapono lacks both determination and hustle. Daequons potential is high too he has great quicks, playmaking/setting and goot footwork.

Other possibilities:

In case of Granger not signing back with Indiana, sign him at any cost.

Trade Calderon and Bargs for a solid tough center and sign Andre Miller/Mike Bibby/Jason Kidd/Steve Nash.

Potential Lineup:

Andre Miller/Mike Bibby/Jason Kidd/Steve Nash
James Harden/Demar Derozan
Danny Granger
Chris Bosh

Tough Center

Bench:
Pops Mensah Bonsu
Jamario/Gharam
Daequon Cook
Roko Ukic

This group will give us real leadership, not the stuff that Bosh gives us, the "telling the team that we need to try, play defense blah blah." It gives us a solid veteran point guard that will play, lead the team, provide assistance to the new coach and help our young players (Granger,Ukic,Bargnani,Pops,Harden/Derozan) develop.

I loved the title
loved your idea to draft derozan if harden is not available
love that we both feel Calderon doesnt take enough risks on offense
love that you hate kapono, justlike many others in the forum
but...
bargnani and calderon
for cook and beasley
calderon for beasley would make a little more sense
but throwing in Bargnani after the way hes been playing lately.. no way jose.
btw, welcome to the forum!

Playoff contenders but not a division championship team.
hell I like it, make Toronto a feared team again, and the idea of keeping Bosh with a GOOD lineup.

You want Bosh at the 5? There's a reason why Colangelo traded for JO and made Bargnani a centre - to take the pounding away from Bosh.

Bosh dont play 5
and I think Beasley is a SF

Good to think outside the box but this team would have virtually no inside presence

Why does anyone in their right mind think that BC would trade Bargnani?
That's his boy! He's not going anywhere.

it doesnt make sense from the perspective of positioning.
theres no way Bosh gets thrown into being a Center.
you think we have rebounding issues now, just wait to see what happens when our 2 bigs are CB and Beasley.... yikes.

Two bigs are beasley and Bosh??? what are you guys talking about? It's Bosh and Odom... same thing LA does with Gasol and Odom right now.

I dont mind that team... but too many unknowns... and still no1 to play some defence (chalmers' steals are all tap aways by wade).

Gasol is heavier than Bosh and can take the pounding down low. It's proven that Bosh can't play against the 5's in the NBA.

I wouldn't pay top dollar to Odom. No way. He's way too inconsistent.

this team doesn't win 20 games - that's for sure. You have:

1. HORRIBLE defenders at three positions (bosh at C, beasley at PF and the rookie)
2. no shot creator
3. no 3pt shooting
4. no inside presence

on second thought, this team would not win more than 15 games.

Odom is madly overrated by those who don't watch him alot.
He is a nice player, but definitely not the player to put us over the top. If we had Odom right now, we would STILL not be contending for a playoff spot. He is at best the 3rd, 4th best player on a elite team.

I don't wanna part with Bargs but I do like your last scenario...cept I don't see us getting Granger. If we get Granger + Bibby/Miller, I will jizz my pants

For me personally, this will be a good summer if
1) We get a better PG or even a good enough backup a la Ford last year when having a dual PG rotation was a strength (provided that the PG is a slasher and provides leadership)

2) We sign someone defensive and ATHLETIC at SF like Ariza... don't really want Maid Marion back

3) Draft a NBA-ready SG

4) Get rid of the shitty players that I'm too lazy to mention

...Unfortunately I don't think this will be a good summer
