Mickael Pietrus, who has not been re-signed by Phoenix Suns, accepted the proposal of Toronto Raptors, as reported by Sud Ouest.
The deal will be announced as soon as Pietrus will pass the medical tests. Pietrus was traded to Suns during last regular season from Orlando Magic and with Phoenix has played 38 games averaging 7.4ppg and 2rpg.

Doug Smith confirms..

This is why I get up early, I guess.

Just got a note from an alert reader pointing out this to me, a report that says the Raptors are going to sign Mickeal Pietrus when the free agency period opens this afternoon.

Haven’t got confirmation yet – some people must not be up yet – but, on its face, it’s not a bad deal as long as it meets Bryan’s criteria of not being too expensive or too long a contract.

Guess I’ll have something to do this morning.

Pietrus, in case you forgot, is a 6-6 small forward, played in Golden State, Orlando and finished last year in Phoenix and has long been a favourite of some of the folks in Toronto’s front office.

Stick around, we’ll get more when we can.

It's a trade for a conditional 2nd round pick, not a straight signing. He has a 5.3Mil expiring.

js12 12-09-2011 07:52 AM

Nice! I've always liked him. Solid defender and shooter for the SF position.

js12 12-09-2011 07:53 AM

And I'm guessing this is done with the TPE instead of cap room?

jeffb 12-09-2011 07:59 AM

It improves us defensively.

Bayless/Calderon/??
Derozan/Barbosa
Pietrus/Johnson/Kleiza
Bargnani/Davis/Amir
??/Magloire/Alabi

Call me crazy but I think that team can win 20ish games. :haha:

Bankiz 12-09-2011 08:10 AM

good for us and for him.

Snooch 12-09-2011 08:12 AM

I like pietrus

solid addition

Admiral 12-09-2011 08:14 AM

yes! completely eliminating the thought of sonny weems!
definite upgrade in defense, can shoot the 3, and fits the team's athletic core
he may not be at the elite level but i think for the team right now he's definitely adequate as the starting SF wingman beside demar

Bankiz 12-09-2011 08:14 AM

we just need a starter at C.
i hope for brown or even thuriaf !

I agree. I want Jeff Foster at this point. Turiaf would be ok.

fancylad 12-09-2011 08:19 AM

interesting. We are actually starting to resemble a team now as opposed to a mish mash of random players. At the very least it's a better mish mash.

Good signing.

Probably, if we get an extension on it. Doesn't really make a difference. But yes, likely we use the TPE if it is available to us, thus keeping us over the cap with our cap holds and having the full MLE to sign whoever else to fill out the roster.

i agree with just needing a C

but please not kwame if that's the brown you're talking about, that's actually worse than magloire
i'm all for turiaf
but I'm really hoping there's a way for bargs and davis to man the PF/C positions, a little undersized with davis at C, but if he can get the muscle he can play undersized like a ben wallace, even antonio davis was undersized when he was with us

I'm expecting the MLE spent on a starting Center and then a cheap pick up on a 3rd PG and that'll be it. Maybe they use the MLE for both?

dfunkie1 12-09-2011 08:40 AM

good pick-up. he's always had a nice defensive toolset, it's just that he's never played in a system that would utilize it. i doubt that'll change this season, but if he's retained, he could be a solid reserve for us in the near future.

Scully 12-09-2011 08:53 AM

I guess we've given up on the idea of scoring from the 3. There better be a good pick up behind this, because our 2012 rebuilding looks alot like giving up.

Windex 12-09-2011 08:55 AM

adding a Frenchmen to the UN team :cookie: good player, decent signing

Bankiz 12-09-2011 09:02 AM

pietrus is a solid sf, who has all. 3pts, D and experience.

but besides that, he is an expiring.
and 5.3M on expiring is a good thing. even if we resign him after this season, if he can produce.

but next season, we would have a young C, another high pick i suppose, and with davis and derozan that will put us with 4 talented player at pne spot.
so i think it s time too to fill the other bench spot we need wuth player who can contribute for cheap. and prove themself they can compete with us.

i'm all for thuriaf instead of brown too. only, brown is a FA. maybe we can over bid atlanta on collins.
but BC need to bring here a nice Center who can produce D.

Scully 12-09-2011 09:04 AM

Yeah its a great deal now we have James Johnson and the french James Johnson. Or is it that we had the American Mickeal Pietrus.
