I guess for a 2nd rounder you cant really blame. His role will just like be in Orlando Perimeter Defender and 3pot shooter. But I feel bad for Johnson though. This was supposed to be his year, and with Kleiza coming back and hoping to get back to shape things dont look too well for him

Trading Barbosa + Pietris to Hornets for Okafor + a 1st might work though...but it will just get vetoed

very happy with this signing! Clearly we're not attempting to have a good record this season, everyone's accepted that.

So what we're looking for is decent players who can help us transition into a good team over the next 2 seasons, without committing us to anything. Magliore (and maybe another C signing,) and pietrus can do this for us.

we've not committed ourselves to anything and would you be happy with picking up pietrus in the 2nd round of the draft!? Of course.

i don't think this changes anything for Johnson. He will still have ample opportunities to have an impact and to show the coach how much playing time he deserves. We still don't know if Kleiza is going to be able to play at the same level he did before the injury and with the games condensed into a shortened season, depth for the team is going to be important.

Plus it's not like Petrius is this NBA allstar who will get most of the minutes. All three guys will have to internally compete for their time and that's not a bad thing.

A fantastic pickup.... they've now got three SF's with size and varying skillsets.... but uggh, another euro... haha

Pietrus is a good fit for this team.... he's not as ideal as Battier in terms of attitude and mentoring, but skill wise they're on similar levels now. If he plays well, he'd likely be willing to stay here, especially if we don't have an opportunity to draft a SF in this draft.

I like the deal. It's a low-risk move and Pietrus has an expiring contract, which fits in with BC's emphasis on having tons of cap space for next off-season. Pietrus can play the 2 or the 3 spot, gives the team some much-needed outside shooting and defence, and toughness. Nice move by BC.

I just think there were better options out there.
1. Never in his career has he shot below 30%. Ever. His minimum was .318 about 6 years ago. His career average is .359, and over the past 5 years (on 3 different teams with different teammates) he has average a 3FG% of .370.

2. He has never played less than 50 games in his career. He played 57 games last year, but has averaged 63 games the past 4 years, and with James Johnson and Linas Kleiza already on board, we won't be needing him to play heavy minutes - he'll probably see the 20ish minutes per game he's seen of late, and that's all we'll need from him.

3. Last year before the VC trade, he averaged 22 minutes per game, slightly above his normal 20 minutes per game for the last half decade. Last year after the VC trade he averaged 18 minutes per game, slightly below his normal 20 MPG. He played in 38 games for Phoenix, out of a possible 54. Most of those missed games were due to injury, which we've covered.

4. All his defensive prowess - he played a majority of his minutes for the Suns at SG, and held is opponents to an 11.0 PER and .436 eFG%. The team was 8 points better per 100 possessions defensively when he was on the floor versus when he wasn't. Opponents as a team shot an eFG% of 47.3% when he was on the floor, versus 52.1% when he sat.

We don't need Kleiza. TRADE HIM. He's not worth the contract. Pietrus and Johnson better players. All Kleiza did was score. Anytime he dribbled it was a turnover. TRADE.

One more at this point - a 3rd string PG. That would put us at the minimum 13 players. We may also sign another big, based on Colangelo's statements.

one more i assume.

9 under contract + "jonas's hold" + magloire + pÓetrus = 12
we need another one, and one who replace jonas in our roster.

Still don't like. I am in the minority. I still think he 3pt shooting % is reflective of the teams he was on. I know he has been toted as great defender, and I am sure his numbers here will reflect that. I thought the gap at 3 could have been filled with some one who could have brought leadership to this team and I just don't see it come from him.

I am not denying he past performance, I just don't see him as an asset at this position this early in the process. At the end of the day I not terribly pissed we have 6'6 swing man. But like I posted earlier I would have felt a lot better about if it was done next week as opposed to 4 hours before FA opens. That may seem ridiculous but I just don't think Mickael Pietrus was worthy of a day before opening signing.
