The Raptors has always been a terrible name.
So, lets brainstorm and come up with something better. Huskies - Traditional, but overused by other teams. (Red) Dragons - I like The Dragons, no one has it yet. Also, Red Dragons sounds even better, IMHO. Toronto Union Basketball Club - I like the idea of a steampunk/railroad theme. It has blue collar, industrial implications, and it fits well with the history of the city. Other ideas along this line: Locomotive, Boilers, Steam Engine, Railers. The mascot could be an 1800s era conductor with a handlebar mustache. A steam whistle could be installed at the ACC for celebrations. Does anyone else really dislike the team name? Does anyone else think they have some better ideas? Last edited by EggsToTheBBQ; 05-19-2012 at 09:10 AM. |

Oh, I don't know. We're no worse then the Hornets, Wizards, Bucks, Trailblazers imo. Then again, no team in this city has a great name anyway.

Ask around outside the fan base and you'll find that Raptors is one of the top five lamest team names not just in the NBA but in all of North American pro sports.
Seriously, when was the last time you saw someone wear Raptors gear, not because they're a fan, or affiliated with the team, but because it looks good? Answer: never, because dinosaurs are lame as hell. |

They're that because they've been around so long, but the names alone aren't all that great. I would argue though that Blue Jays/current logo is probably the best looking brand in this city. The Maple Leafs is an iconic brand, nobody disputes that but a blue leaf? |

I never liked the name from day one and never will. I was always on the Huskies bandwagon and really wish they would have just used the name but I'm not going to cry over it. |
